On Friday night, November 18 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center’s Atrium will be transformed into a haven of wellness and a festive ballroom as newly transitioning women Veterans are welcomed to “Ladies’ Night”.

The unique annual outreach event was created to introduce women Veterans to VA health care, benefits and services as well as resources available within the community.  The evening of engagement and appreciation offers a special opportunity for women Veterans to see the cultural transformation currently taking place within the medical center.

Ladies’ Night is no typical outreach event. The atmosphere is festive and full of sisterly camaraderie. The women will be introduced to a variety of available services including:
complementary and alternative therapies such as acupuncture, Reiki, massage and meditation in addition health screenings, flu shots and VA informational booths such as enrollment and eligibility, MyHealtheVet, E-Benefits.  Many will visit the medical center’s Women’s Health Center which offers comprehensive and personalized health care, as well as 2-D and 3-D mammography.

Events such as Ladies’ Night are an important component of the medical center’s outreach effort for women Veterans.  Women are the fastest growing population of Veterans and the medical center currently has more than 14,000 women enrolled for care and the numbers are expected to rise as women now represent over 13 percent of the OEF/OIF/OND Veteran population.
