Mindful Memorial Day Event May 27th Arlington Cemetary

For the fourth consecutive year, volunteers of the Mindful Memorial Day Foundation will gather at The Women’s Memorial(WIMSA) at Arlington National Cemetery to honor the fallen with mindfulness. Like years past, the names of every post-9/11 fallen warrior will be spoken aloud between volunteers and  visitors in an exchange called a mindful moment of gratitude. This and other ways to honor the fallen with mindfulness will take place throughout the weekend.

New to this year’s offering is the Honor Brigade. Created after a volunteer crossed checked every post-9/11 fallen warrior with the Arlington Cemetery database, the Honor Brigade’s mission is to visit the almost 900 post-9/11 fallen buried in Section 60. On Saturday, May 27th at 10am the inaugural detachment of the Honor Brigade will depart from the WIMSA Hall of Honor into Arlington. Each Honor Brigade volunteer will be assigned a gravesite to visit. At each gravesite the volunteer will sit and engage in a simple mindfulness practice to focus their mind before offering gratitude in a way that’s meaningful to them. Upon completion of their mission, volunteers will return to the Hall of Honor.

Volunteers interested in the Honor Brigade are encouraged to watch this 10min orientation. Honor Brigade detachments will deploy every two hours from the Hall of Honor through Memorial Day. The Honor Brigade is open to all. We are one family united by our shared respect for the fallen. To learn about about Mindful Memorial Day and become part of the Honor Brigade visit the Armor Down website or contact Ben@mindfulmemorial.org
