The Soldier’s Journey – Heroes Voices National Poetry Contest Reading – June 7

Hylton Performing Arts Center

The Hylton Center is excited to announce a special event happening in the Gregory Family Theater on Wednesday, June 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Join us for The Soldier’s Journey, an evening of music and poetry exploring a variety of perspectives on war, peace, and the soldier’s experience.*

The evening will feature extraordinary selections of live music and poetry, followed by a reception.

These performances are the culminating events of the Heroes’ Voices National Veterans Poetry Contest, a cooperative venture between Heroes’ Voices in San Francisco, CA and George Mason University in Manassas, VA. The four winning poems, selected from hundreds of entries received from Veterans across America, will be featured at both events, along with other selected poetry.
Admission is Free. Donations accepted to support programming for Veterans, Servicemembers, and their families presented by the Veterans and the Arts Initiative.

Thanks to all who ‘raised the paddle’ to support the Hylton Center’s Veterans and the Arts Initiative at the 7th Anniversary Gala.

*The perspectives explored in the poetry that has been written by Veterans, as well as classic literature of conflict and service, will include tributes and celebrations of service. The perspectives will also include explorations of conflict during times of war and topics of mental and emotional health (including post-traumatic stress and death). We understand that these topics may be challenging for some. If you have any questions about content prior to the event, please feel free to contact us at hylton@gmu.edu.
