Space Available at Veteran Retreat

Operation Tohidu has several opening in the men’s retreat that runs from May 7th to May 11th.  Operation Tohidu is a free 5-day program for veterans or service members that have been diagnosed with or are self-identifying PTS(d), mild TBI, anxiety or depression. Applications are due by April 22, 2018.       

Virginia Women Veterans Summit

This event brings together veterans, community leaders, employers, and government agencies from the federal, state, and local levels to raise awareness about the services and benefits offered specifically for women veterans. The summit will also host exhibitors whose mission involves the wellness and wholeness of women veterans and feature notable presenters. June 14 & 15 at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center, Alexandria, VA. Registration is required.

2018 Military Spouse Employment Summit

On May 8, 2018, Hiring Our Heroes will host another game-changing event that will continue to shape the conversation around what it means to be a dual-income military family in the 21st century. The half-day Military Spouse Employment Summit will engage stakeholders, identify best practices in talent management for recruiting and retaining military spouses, highlight standout military spouse professionals and entrepreneurs, and set the stage for a renewed emphasis on removing barriers to military spouse employment as a national security imperative.

VETOGA Teacher Training – May 23-June 3

VETOGA will be hosting two 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training programs that are specifically for military, veterans, family members and caregivers to become yoga instructors. This teacher training will equip the trainees with the holistic tools and teachings to continue to pass on the healing benefits of yoga back to their veteran communities.

VOICES FROM THE FIELD: The Committee on the Well-being of Military Families – Apr 24

The Committee on The Well-being of Military Families will hold a public information-gathering session on April 24, 2018 from 11:30 AM to 5:00 PM at the National Academy of Sciences Building (Auditorium), 2101 Constitution Avenue, NW, in Washington, DC. The committee is studying the challenges and opportunities facing military families and what is known about effective strategies for supporting and protecting military children and families, as well as lessons to be learned from these experiences.

Speed Networking Event for Military Spouses

Military Spouse Networking - Bethesda - April 11. Join the USO and Steven A Cohen Military Family Clinic at Easterseals for a fun, fast paced speed networking session for military spouses in the Washington D.C. and local military community. April 11th from 10:00AM-2:00PM at 1420 Spring Street, Suite 300, Silver Spring, MD. Learn about the USO, the art of networking, create and practice your personal or professional elevator pitch and speed network with other military spouses, employers, organizations, and community leaders. Second Annual Heroes’ Voices National Veterans Poetry Contest

Submissions are currently being accepted for the Second Annual Heroes' Voices National Veterans Poetry Contest in cooperation with George Mason University through www.heroesvoices.org.  The contest is open to all Veterans and original, unpublished poems may be submitted for consideration until April 20, 2018.
