University of Maryland Study Seeks Veterans

Researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine are conducting a study of an investigational medication for the treatment of heavy drinking.

Have you experienced a traumatic event in your life? Do thoughts about this experience affect you now? Do you use alcohol to get relief?  The University of Maryland is conducting a research study of a medication that may help people who have experienced a traumatic event feel better and drink less. Traumatic events are things like physical or sexual assault, war zone exposure, serious accidents, and natural disasters.

Who May Participate in this Study

  • Adults 18-65 years of age
  • Of African-American descent
  • Have experienced trauma at some point

Those who are eligible are asked to complete weekly study visits for an additional 12 weeks that include taking study medication, providing information about drinking and PTSD symptoms, and completing a brief educational meeting.

Participants will be compensated for their time. Assistance with transportation is available.
