Military and Community DEI Listening Session

On May 18, 2021 ServingTogether, a program of EveryMind will host a small-group Military and community listening session to provide an opportunity for Veterans, military members and/or family members to share experiences and perspectives about diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI) in your local community. If you are interested in participating in this virtual listening session event which will run from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM ET.

The session is being sponsored by ServingTogether, a program of  EveryMind in coordination with the Community, Military, and Federal Facility Partnership of Northern Virginia, a partnership that is focused on attracting, retaining and supporting the military presence at installations and in the community for the common good and welfare of all residents. The purpose of the listening session is to:

  • Convene diverse participants and provide a safe environment for them to share personal experiences and express perspectives.
  • Help community representatives invited to the session better understand participant experience related to diversity, equity, and inclusion so they can take actionable steps to create more equitable and inclusive defense communities.

This Listening session is tied to the One Military, One Community (OMOC) initiative that the Association of Defense Communities launched as part of their Summit Series on October 1, 2020. To learn more about the One Military, One Community initiative, please visit this website and watch this short and video about conversations on race. As mentioned above, the Community, Military, and Federal Facility Partnership of Northern Virginia is supporting this effort and it has conducted two listening sessions in the region since November 2020.
