Paid Internships Open to Veterans

SCA and Davey Tree Expert Company are expanding their innovative career training collaboration and fielding nearly 100 tree care and grounds maintenance positions in 2016. These paid internships run for six-months, and are available in more than a dozen locations nationwide. Opportunities are available in the Baltimore-D.C Region.

Maryland: Operation Campout

The Maryland Park Service, in partnership with The North Face: Explore Your Parks, offers OPERATION: CAMPOUT!, at selected state parks throughout the summer. This program is specifically designed for military individuals and military families new to camping, or experienced campers stationed or recovering in this area.

SCA Veteran Fire Corps Program

Created in 2010 in cooperation with the US Forest Service and expanded into an AmeriCorps program in 2012, the Veterans Fire Corps trains and engages teams of military veterans in wildland fire mitigation. Applications for Summer 2016 open in May 2016.

MC Commission on Veterans Affairs

The next Commission on Veterans Affairs meeting will be on Tuesday April 19, 2016 at 401 Hungerford Drive, Rockville, MD from 6 - 7:30 pm. The meeting will feature two speakers - Cindy McGrew, President and Founder of Operation Second Chance and Dr. Raymond Crowel, Chief, Behavioral Health and Crisis services, Department of Health and Human Services. All meetings are open to the public.

Veterans Voices DC

Veterans Voices DC will have their monthly meeting on Thursday April 14th at 6:30pm. Join their storytellers Adam Popp, a 12-year combat Veteran of the U.S. Air Force who served in Afghanistan and Victoria Pridemore, who has served for 15 years in the Army and Virginia Army National Guard including deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq.

VIP Grow Session – Apply Now

VIP is a 3-day, 27-hour comprehensive certification program for veteran businesses to increase their ability to win government contracts by establishing best business practices. This is an initiative of the Montgomery County Chamber Community Foundation (MCCCF). The next session begins June 21.
