Red Cross Home Fire Prevention Campaign
American Red Cross Urges People to Prevent Home Fires
Seven times a day, someone in this country dies in a home fire. That’s why the American Red Cross has launched a national campaign to reduce deaths and injuries from home fires by as much as 25 percent over the next five years. The campaign seeks to increase the use of smoke alarms in neighborhoods with higher numbers of home fires and to encourage all Americans to practice their fire escape plans. The Red Cross responds to nearly 70,000 disasters each year in the United States – and the vast majority of those are home fires. The Red Cross National Capital Region is committed to decreasing this number through a proactive approach: installing free smoke alarms and empowering families to make smart decisions during a disaster. |
Servicemembers, veterans and their families can request a FREE smoke alarm installation or battery check by visiting: https://volunteerconnection.redcross.org/?nd=form__6252
Anyone in Prince William, Loudoun, Fairfax, Alexandria, Arlington, DC, Montgomery County or Prince George’s county who signs up using the link will be contacted by the Red Cross and install times will be coordinated.
