Veterans Employment Transition Summit & Hiring Event – April 20 & 21
The NVTC Veterans Employment Initiative (VEI) is again partnering with the Military District of Washington (MDW) to put on another two-day Veteran Employment Transition Summit (VETS) at the Community Center at Fort Myer. Job seeking transitioning military members, Veterans and military spouses are welcome and encouraged to attend.
On April 20th, MDW is gathering all of its military members due to transition to the civilian sector within the next 12 months – about 200-300 personnel – for the first day of VETS. From 8:30 am to 2:00 pm, will feature a special VetraCon2017 event where attendees will be exposed to a series of speakers that will provide insight and education on a wide variety of topics dealing with a successful transition from a military to a civilian career. The afternoon program will feature an Recruiters panel who will share their job seeking insights and best practices, such as resume writing, use of social media, interview techniques, networking, etc. NVTC member companies, please contact VEI Director Steve Jordon sjordon@nvtc.org if you would like to participate as a panel member.
On April 21st, the VEI will run its highly successful “career speed-dating” Recruiting Day event where, unlike a traditional job fair in which candidates circulate randomly to employer tables, here companies will present their job opportunities and recruiters will speak directly with small groups of job seekers (max of 6). The day starts at 9:00 with a brief introduction after which companies will circulate to tables to meet with the job seekers in series of 15 minute “interview” sessions. This allows the recruiters to speak directly with candidates about their professional qualifications and interest in specific positions. The format also provides valuable insight and mentoring for the job-seekers from the recruiters – many of whom have never been through a formal civilian job interview process. Jobseekers- have hard copies of your resume ready for the recruiters. Lunch will be provided.
