Today is National Caregivers Day! Thank you to Caregivers!
Did you know today, Friday, February 21, 2020, is National Caregivers Day? This wonderful idea was originally championed by the Providers Association for Home Health & Hospice Agencies, and we are asking you to join Operation Family Caregiver in spreading the word.
To mark the occasion, we have a simple request:
Will you take a moment to thank the caregivers – past and present – in your life on Friday, February 21?
All it takes is a phone call, a handwritten note or a post to a social media account. This is an opportunity to show our gratitude to the military spouses, parents, battle buddies, and other loved ones who tirelessly care for our nation’s wounded warriors.
Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter often reminds us that caregiving is an isolating experience. For military caregivers, the isolation can be even more pronounced because of the stigma many feel admitting they need help. By recognizing the dedication of a caregiver with a heartfelt thank you, we are signaling they aren’t alone and that we appreciate all they do.
Please consider sharing your story and word of thanks on social media, and don’t forget to include #ThankACaregiver and tag @RCICaregiving and @OpFamCaregiver. You can even share a photo of the caregiver in your life. RCI will choose 5 of these stories to feature at our National Conversation on Caregiving next November. We look forward to sharing your gratitude with others.
Thank you,
Jennifer Olsen, DrPH
