Cardiovascular Disease: An overview of the impact of trauma, mental health, Veteran status and unique CVD risks facing female Veterans
In the United States, cardiovascular disease is the number one Killer of women. This statistic is more devastating when considering female Veterans since they are noted to have higher rates of cardiovascular disease than their civilian counterparts. This unique subpopulation of Veterans currently comprises approximately 17% of our active duty service members and represent the fastest growing segment of the military. Today’s forum highlights several key traditional and nontraditional risk factors that impact their cardiovascular health.
