Division: ServingTogether

Status: Full time, 40 hours/week (10-month position)

EveryMind (in partnership with HealthyMinds Alliance) is recruiting for an AmeriCorps member to serve as a Military Mental Health First Aid instructor, provide support to EveryMind’s community education programs, and provide Veteran Peer Navigation support. The AmeriCorps member will be responsible for all aspects of the training courses such as community outreach, building partnerships, marketing, and participant tracking/ evaluation. The AmeriCorps member will assist in coordinating educational events including trainings, webinars and speaking requests. In addition, the Americorps member will be responsible for assisting in receiving, prioritizing, and providing triage to incoming assistance requests from clients (veterans, service members, and their family members/caretakers, and referring organizations), conducting needs assessments, and collecting supporting documentation before providing the appropriate information about referrals to local, regional, and national resources.

This internship will prepare students to work in collaboration with public and non-profit partners to streamline efforts connecting veterans, active duty, guard, reserve, caregivers, and military spouses with coordinated care for all of life’s needs. From employment to benefits navigation, education to mental health and wellbeing supports, our strategic partnerships are vital to serving our extraordinary military-connected community and their families, before, during, and after service.

Upon completion of the internship, students will be able to establish skills and experience that prepare them for employment in human services positions that address the needs of veterans, service members, and military families.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

· Participate in Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) instructor training (Date & Location TBD)

· Disseminate Adult MHFA training courses to community members and organizations

· Outreach to local community for course participants, as well as recruit and engage community partners

· Schedule and organize ServingTogether community education presentations and events including Military and Veteran (MHFA) courses

· Track each participant certified through pre and post evaluations

· Submit evaluations as directed by Health360 and training entity

· Establish and foster relationships with community agencies as partners and resources

· Advocate for mental health awareness by promoting the principles of the mental health first aid curriculum whenever possible

· Participate in AmeriCorps large service project and monthly calls held nationally by Health360

· Coordinate information fairs and speaking requests and provide coverage at community events as needed.

· Utilize database to track caller information, requests, case notes, resource provision, and follow-up.

· Manage multiple service requests and resource referral follow-ups simultaneously

· Evaluate client’s social, behavioral, and physical health needs and refer to resources within prescribed metrics.

· Develop extensive knowledge of the National Capital Region’s military and veteran resources and services, in addition to other both public and private local, regional, and national resources.

· Provide outreach and engagement as needed to include the ongoing identification of available public and private resources for military, veterans, and their families/caregivers.

· Liaison with clients, providers and community stakeholders

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in social work/human services field strongly preferred or 2-3 years of related experience.

Skills & Experience:

· Information and referral, community outreach, and/or case management experience

· Familiarity with military and veteran population and related services is required

· Strong communication, coordination, and organizational skills.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

· Must be detail oriented and able to successfully prioritize and manage multiple tasks while working effectively independently as well as part of a team

· Personal and/ or professional knowledge of mental health topics

· Strong teaching and/ or training skills and experience, especially with adult learners

· Understanding of mental health issues and resources

· Skills and experience facilitating diverse groups and creating/maintaining a positive, effective learning environment

· Knowledge about mental health resources in her/his community and state

· Positive attitudes towards individuals with mental illnesses

· Enthusiasm for reducing the stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness and addiction disorders

 

Details and Benefits include:

· Complete a 10-month commitment beginning in Fall 2020, specific dates will be determined by the host site supervisor*

· Full-time AmeriCorps position – 1700 service hours – 40 hours per week, 5 holidays, 2.5 personal days

· AmeriCorps members receive a $13,992 stipend for their service – paid biweekly = 22 checks

· $6,095 Education Award upon completion of service commitment (1700 service hours)

*Term of service is limited to a maximum of 12 months with approval by Health360.
