VTW aids service members in leveraging their strengths, passions, & skills to thrive personally and professionally in their post-military lives.

Child Care Resources for Military Families – Sept 14

The Fort Belvoir Collaborative will be holding their monthly meeting on Thursday, September 14 from 12 - 2 pm at the USO on Fort Belvoir. It will be a topic-driven discussion on Child Care Resources for Military Families on and around Fort Belvoir. We’ll have representatives from: Fort Belvoir Child & Youth Services, Fairfax County Office for Children, and Easter Seals Child Development Center. Join in on the discussion to learn about programs and services available for military families in the region, and have an opportunity to learn, ask questions, network and share. DC Networking Reception and Hiring Expo with the Washington Nationals

Join Hiring Our Heroes for a job fair for service members, veterans, and military spouses at Nationals Park in Washington, DC. Wednesday, September 6, 2017 to Thursday, September 7, 2017. All registered veterans and military spouses are eligible to receive up to two free tickets to attend that evening's game between the Nationals and the Phillies. The night before the hiring fair, please join the Hiring Our Heroes Military Spouse Program for a networking reception in at Capital One Headquarters in McLean, VA. 9/11 Heroes Run – Alexandria – Sept 9

The 9/11 Heroes Run 5k +1/2M family fun run/walk will be held on Saturday, September 9 at 9:00 AM at Carl Sandburg Middle School in Alexandria, VA. Runners and walkers of all levels and of all ages are welcome. Events take place all over the world, on or near September 11th, and are 100% organized by local community volunteers. It is the perfect opportunity for your community to personally come out and thank your local veterans, their families, and first responders in an annual, fun, and family friendly environment!

Employment Readiness Workshop – Sept 21

USO Metro will be hosting an Employment Readiness Workshop on Fort Belvoir on Saturday, September 21 from 9:30 am - 1:00 pm. Open to transitioning servicemembers, veterans and military spouses.

Fort Belvoir Retiree Appreciation Day – Sept 8

The Fort Belvoir Retiree Appreciation Day will be held on Friday, September 8 from 8 am - 3 pm. There will be a Breakfast, Health & Wellness Fair, & Lunch at the Specker Field House from 8 am - 12:45 pm. And then presentations at the Barden Education Center from 1 - 3 pm. Cake cutting will be held at Fort Belvoir Exchange at 3:30 pm.

Sound the Alarm Home Fire Prevention – Volunteer Opportunity

The American Red Cross will be holding Sound the Alarm Home Fire Prevention Campaign events in 3 locations in Prince Georges County and in Brightwood Park in DC in September and October 2017. In partnership with local fire departments, they are hoping to mobilize partners, volunteers, staff and community members/leaders to install nearly 2,000 smoke alarms. They are seeking volunteers to come out and join in this important effort.

Business Basics for Transitioning Servicemembers Accepting Applications

USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore and Hewlett Packard Enterprise have teamed up to provide Business Basics -- a program designed to give participants real-world corporate skills targeted around "how to get things done in Corporate America". This program includes online classes, individual mentoring, classroom instruction and practical application exercises which will help transitioning service members hit the ground running in their first job after the military. Classes will be held at the USO Warrior and Family Center at Fort Belvoir Thursdays from 6:00 - 9:30pm September 7 - October 12. Applications will be accepted through 5:00pm Tuesday, August 29. Space is limited and a completed and submitted application does not guarantee a spot.
