Art Exhibit: Exploring Identity with Women Veterans

Join the Hylton Performing Arts Center for an exhibition of local women veteran art. The exhibition features the work of seven women who served during the Vietnam War-era through post 9/11-era and in several branches of the military. Thursday, November 7th from 6:00-8:00 PM. RSVP by November 4th.

Georgetown University Military Connected Admissions Fair

Service members, Reservists, Veterans, Military Spouses, and Families, and Military-Connected Education Counselors are cordially invited to the Military-Connected Admissions Fair and Reception at Georgetown University on Wednesday, November 6th from 5:30-8:00PM. At the event you can meet with academic school admissions offices to learn more about Georgetown's programs and with members of the Veterans Office to learn more about resources to military-connected students. Advocacy in Military Psychology Summit

The society for Military Psychology (Div.19 of the APA) and DCPA are sponsoring a two day summit on advocacy and Mil/Psych to be held at The Catholic University of America. Day one, will include panel presentations focusing upon Suicide prevention, Veteran transitions,Trauma, Moral injury,Leadership and additional topics designed to increase awareness of the vital role psychology plays in the Military. On Day two multiple community organizations will provide an overview of their work in advocating for Military and veteran issues. It is the hope that this summit will enhance awareness and increase learning of how we may best serve our active duty military and veterans. November 6th (7:30-5:00) and November 7th (8:00-3:00) at Catholic University, Washington DC.  In Person and Webinar: Military, veterans, and spouses (FREE). Registration is required.

The Veterans Art Show Accepting Submissions – Deadline 10/28

Veterans! Get your art together for exhibition in the upcoming Veterans Show at the Delaplaine Arts Center in Frederick Maryland. Deadline for submissions is Monday 10/28! Veteran artists are invited to submit one work of art for exhibition. All mediums are eligible. Not theme is required. All submissions will be included in the exhibition unless otherwise indicated by Delaplaine staff. The Veterans Show will take place November 2 - December 1, 2019.

New Veteran Focused Toastmasters Chapter

Join the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic and Toastmasters International for a demonstration meeting on Saturday, October 26th at 11:30 am to find out more about the soon to be formed Toastmasters Chapter specifically focused to include Veterans, Wounded Warriors, Transitioning Military, Caregivers and Friends. Toastmasters helps people become better communicators and leaders. It allows you to engage with people who share similar interests in a supportive and comfortable setting. It can be beneficial to persons transitioning to a new phase in their career. Come out to find out more and see if Toastmasters is a fit for you! Childcare available. Service Dog Study Needs Veterans

The University Of Maryland School Of Nursing has partnered with Warrior Canine Connection to conduct a research study on how training service dogs might affect PTSD and stress in veterans with PTSD. The study is currently seeking veterans to participate by training service dogs for other veterans dealing with PTSD. Participants will be compensated for their time.

DC Veterans Roundtable

The DC Mayor’s Office of Veterans Affairs (MOVA) hosts a monthly roundtable on Thursdays from 10:00am-12:00pm located at 441 4th St.NW. The next meeting will be on Thursday, 10/31.
