Fort Belvoir Oktoberfest – Sept 28 thru Oct 1
Fort Belvoir’s Family and MWR hosts one of the most anticipated events of the year: The 21st annual Oktoberfest! Located at Fremont Field on Fort Belvoir, September 28 - October 1. Oktoberfest is a four-day festival that highlights authentic German cuisine, beverages, music, and dancing. Enjoy an exciting carnival, Volksmarch 10K Walk, a vendor market (Specker Field House), and much more. This is a fun-filled event geared toward the whole family!
Military and First Responders Appreciation Weekend – Sept 16 & 17
Gaver Farm is hosting the Military and First Responders Appreciation Weekend this Saturday and Sunday from 10 am - 6 pm in Mt Airy, MD with Farm Market, free hayrides, pick your own pumpkins and apples and Fall Fun Festival featuring over 50 activities including a corn maze, farm animals, mini mazes, giant slides, pedal karts, corn bin, combine slide, jumping pillow and much more.
SemperFit Health Fair & Walk/Run at Work Day – Sept 14
Semper Fit Health Fair and Football Combine and the Marine Corps Marathon National Walk/Run at Work Day will be held on Thursday, September 14, at Butler Stadium at MCB Quantico. The rain location will be inside the Barber Physical Activity Center.
Child Care Resources for Military Families – Sept 14
The Fort Belvoir Collaborative will be holding their monthly meeting on Thursday, September 14 from 12 - 2 pm at the USO on Fort Belvoir. It will be a topic-driven discussion on Child Care Resources for Military Families on and around Fort Belvoir. We’ll have representatives from: Fort Belvoir Child & Youth Services, Fairfax County Office for Children, and Easter Seals Child Development Center. Join in on the discussion to learn about programs and services available for military families in the region, and have an opportunity to learn, ask questions, network and share. To ensure available space, registration for this meeting is required.
9/11 Heroes Run – Alexandria – Sept 9
The 9/11 Heroes Run 5k +1/2M family fun run/walk will be held on Saturday, September 9 at 9:00 AM at Carl Sandburg Middle School in Alexandria, VA. Runners and walkers of all levels and of all ages are welcome. Events take place all over the world, on or near September 11th, and are 100% organized by local community volunteers. It is the perfect opportunity for your community to personally come out and thank your local veterans, their families, and first responders in an annual, fun, and family friendly environment!
Invincible Spirit Festival – Aug 31
Invincible Spirit Festival will be held on Thursday, August 31st at 5:00pm on Pullen Field, Fort Belvoir. Food will be provided along with games and a performance from Lt. Dan Band!
Weekend Warriors – Wellness Workshop – Sept 17
Project Horse Empowerment Center will be hosting a Weekend Warriors Walk-In Wellness Workshop on Saturday, September 17 from 10 am - 12 pm in Purcellville. This wellness workshop is for active duty and retired military and is all about reconnecting with your significant other in a relaxing environment. Workshop fee is $45 per person.
Military Appreciation Day at National Portrait Gallery – Aug 26
Blue Star Families will be hosting a Military Family Appreciation Day at the National Portrait Gallery as part of their Blue Star Museums program on Saturday, August 26 from 11 am - 1:30 pm. There will be live a bluegrass band, private tours with a curator, kids' activities and popcorn!

Blue Star Cares Avatar Toolkit Training – Aug 24 & 26
Are you a caregiver? Don't miss this unique opportunity! The caregiving team at Blue Star Families is evaluating how well an avatar-based training program can help military-connected caregivers improve their overall health and wellbeing and provide better care to their wounded warrior. If you’re a military-connected caregiver who is caring for a wounded warrior and over the age of 18, you’re invited to participate in this research study. You will receive a half day training and lunch will be provided.
