Veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq Conflicts (VAIC) Scholarship Program

The Veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq Conflicts Scholarship Program 2018-2019 Application Available Now in MDCAPS (Maryland College Aid Processing System).  This scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to United States armed forces personnel who served in the Afghanistan or Iraq Conflicts, and their sons, daughters, or spouses who are current high school seniors, and full-time or part-time, degree-seeking undergraduate students enrolled in an eligible accredited Maryland postsecondary institution.

Warrior Herd: Family Workshops – Feb 10

Project Horse Empowerment Center in Purcellville, VA is hosting a free Warrior Herd™ Wellness Workshop on Saturday, February 10 (applications due February 1). This workshop is for FAMILIES, enabling veterans and family members to enjoy a restorative and enriching experience together in a serene setting. Warrior Herd™ is a free strengths-based, horse-powered wellness initiative designed to enhance interpersonal relationships, resiliency and rejuvenation. All horse interactions and activities occur on the ground, and no riding is involved.

Healthy Recipe Cooking Class – Jan 11

Join the USO Warrior and Family Center at Fort Belvoir for a healthy cooking class on Thursday, January 11 at 5:30 pm instructed by a Chef Johnny from The Mission Kitchen, LLC. The class will offer the opportunity to learn and prepare healthy meals. Open to all active duty and their dependents. No registration required.

Parenting Skills Group offered at Cohen Clinic at EasterSeals

The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Easterseals has started a Parenting Skills Group. It is now open for enrollment for military and veteran families. No cost. Free parking. Child care provided. Beginning February 10, it will be held on the Second Saturday of every month from 9 am - 10:30 am. Call 240-847-7500 to sign up. Space is limited.

Stronger Families – Taste of OXYGEN Transition Workshop – Dec 14

USO's Pathfinder program presents Taste of OXYGEN, a workshop packed with information, interaction, and an open question and answer session, the 60-90 minute event creates a fun learning environment. The Transition Workshops help move couples or individuals into a deeper investment in their relationship during their transition from the military. Thursday, December 14 from 5 - 8 pm at the USO on Fort Belvoir.

The Art of Being a Military-Connected Child – Call for the Arts

Calling kids from all over the world, every service, and all ages! Show us what it means to be a military kid through drawings, paintings, poems, or essays. In celebration of our 20th Anniversary and sponsored by Target, the 2017/2018 Call for the Arts campaign will raise visibility of military and veteran-connected children and the sacrifices they experience through military lifestyle. The Art of Being a Military-Connected Child is open to all civilian and military-connected students, Pre-K through high school. All submissions must be postmarked by December 31, 2017.

Tribute Display of Military Children and their Parents

The City of Manassas will partner with the Military Child Education Coalition, to showcase the brave sons and daughters of military parents at our feature train show “Polar Express at Merry Old Town Manassas” held at the Center for the Arts, in recognition of these special families and their contributions. Perhaps you are a military family or know of a family deserving of this honor. If so, please send a photo that shows heartfelt emotion of a family that means the most to you to display. Deadline for submission is December 1.

2017 Joy of Giving Program

Operation Homefront is working with local businesses and corporations that are looking to sponsor military families and Post 9/11 wounded, injured, or ill veterans in DC/MD/VA. If interested an application is required. Submission deadline is November 22.
