THE HYLTON CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS CELEBRATES VETERANS AND THE ARTS WITH INTERACTIVE ACTIVITIES AND ARTS EXPERIENCES
FROM NOVEMBER 9 TO NOVEMBER 11
Celebrate Veterans and the Arts at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas with a variety of arts activities and experiences for Veterans, Servicemembers and their families from Wednesday, November 9 to Friday, November 11th.

Our celebration kicks off on Wednesday, November 9th at 8pm in Merchant Hall with a free concert by the U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own.” This premier musical organization conducted by Col. Timothy J. Holtan will present a Salute to Veterans, honoring Veterans from every war and conflict.

Return on Thursday, November 10th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for a Gallery Reception for The Arts and the Military: Moving through Memories of Service and Conflict (on view 11/7 – 12/11). This free event takes place in the Buchanan Partners Art Gallery and is open to the public, but RSVP is required.

Our celebration of Veterans and the Arts culminates on Friday, November 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with free interactive activities and arts experiences that explore stories of military life, offer Veteran resource information, and build camaraderie through performance and visual art. Complimentary refreshments will be provided.

This second annual Veterans Day at the Hylton Center: Celebrating Veterans and the Arts event commences with a performance by Exit12 Dance Company, a pioneer in the genre of military Veteran art that was founded by a U.S. Marine Iraq war Veteran and two ballerinas. The afternoon will feature a wide range of tributes to military service through the arts. Experience a movement workshop with Exit12 Dance Company, try yoga for Veterans and friends, attend an interactive Veterans’ poetry session, and enjoy musical tributes to Veterans, including a musical performance by C*A*M*M*O (Center for American Military Music Opportunity). Participants can also browse our art gallery exhibition, The Arts and the Military: Moving through Memories of Service and Conflict (on view 11/7 – 12/11) and attend a special jazz preview discussion led by Mason School of Music faculty and Veterans, Jim Carroll and Darden Purcell. This informative lecture will offer insights into the Jazz 4 Justice™ performance that evening by the Mason Jazz Ensemble, Tribute to the Greatest Generation, and 200 lucky guests will receive complimentary tickets (first-come, first-served) to attend the jazz spectacular. Proceeds from this concert will support vital community efforts by the Bar Foundation and the George Mason University Jazz Studies Department.
