DC Mayor’s Office of Veterans Affairs – January Monthly Events

The Mayor’s Office of Veterans Affairs is kicking off 2018 with a new monthly events calendar.  They will be sending this calendar out the first week of every month.


VA Disability Claims Assistance

Do you need help filing your VA Disability Claim?  If you answered yes – the DC Mayor’s Office of Veteran Affairs will be hosting a Department Service Officer every week to assist D.C. Veterans obtain the benefits they have earned as a result of their service.

Helpful Documents:

  • DD-214
  • Military medical records
  • Relevant private sector medical records
  • Statements from family or friends supporting your claims

D.C. Vocational Rehabilitation For Disabled Veterans

The District of Columbia Department of Disability Services has partnered with the Mayor’s Office of Veterans Affairs to provide dedicated vocational rehabilitation assistance to our veteran community. This program is separate and apart from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ vocational rehabilitation program.  If you have been denied or are currently using the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ program, you may still be eligible for District assistance.  Come speak with one of our counselors!

DC Veteran Business Stakeholder Meeting

The DC Mayor’s Office of Veteran’s Affairs is partnering with the DC Department of Small & Local Business Development to launch a monthly Veterans’ Business Stakeholders group. The aim of this group is to build a strengthen support for our local Veteran Business community through government and community supports. Overall, DSLBD is exploring the creation of a DC Veterans’ Business Center.

Advisory Board Meeting

The Advisory Board serves as an advisory body to the Mayor, the Mayor’s Office of Boards and Commissions, the Office of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Employment Services, the Department of Health, the Department of Human Services, and other District government departments, agencies, and offices on all matters pertaining to Veterans in the District of Columbia  All meetings are open to the public – please come out and join us!

The VETTYS

JANUARY 20, 2018 | THE MAYFLOWER HOTEL | WASHINGTON, D.C. 3RD ANNUAL VETERANS AWARDS

In 2015, the Academy of United States Veterans established an annual event at which it presented and recognized the most impactful entities that contribute to the well-being of the Veterans community. The Veterans Awards is an annual event celebrating awards conferred by the Academy’s voting members. The 3rd Annual Veterans Awards (VETTYS) ceremony will be held on January 20, 2018, at the prestigious Mayflower Hotel.

The VETTYS will be presented in reflection of the recipients’ work in 2017. The nominees must exemplify consistency, extraordinary quality of public service, exemplary advocacy efforts, demonstrate exceptional contribution or outstanding service to the Veterans’ community.
