Free Screening of Superpower Dogs This Weekend
SURFING THERAPY DOG & VETERAN WITH PTSD WILL VISIT DC, MD, VA TO HOST FREE SCREENINGS OF THEIR IMAX FILM ‘SUPERPOWER DOGS’
Free sensory friendly and military showings will also be available, along with a free presentation on the healing power of dogs
Surf Dog Ricochet and Staff Sergeant Persons B. Griffith IV (Ret) will be traveling from San Diego, CA to Washington DC, MD and VA for June 22nd and 23rd showings of the IMAX film, Superpower Dogs, as well as a free presentation on the “Healing Power of Dogs in the Treatment of PTSD”.
In addition, a free sensory friendly showing is scheduled for children with autism or other special needs/disabilities and their families.
There will also be a free showing for the military community and their families. Regular showings requiring paid tickets are an option too. (See flyer at the end of this email)
There will be Q&A sessions, and moviegoers can interact with Ricochet before, during and after the film with plenty of photo opportunities.
This free screening is sponsored by the Naval Medical Center San Diego, and two non-profit organizations, Puppy Prodigies and Pawsitive Teams, as well as veterans who are traveling to DC to host this event.

Superpower Dogs is an inspiring true story of extraordinary dogs and their life-saving superpowers. Ricochet, a registered and certified goal-directed therapy dog is one of five dogs in the film. The other four include Henry, an avalanche rescue dog, Reef, a water rescue dog, Halo, a search and rescue dog and Tipper/Tony who sniff out poachers in South Africa. All these dogs rescue individuals in physical trauma. Ricochet, on the other paw, rescues people from emotional trauma.
Ricochet’s sequence showcases how she balances boards… and lives! It focuses on her ability to enrich the well-being of veterans with PTSD and children with special needs through the healing power of the ocean, and the healing power of a dog. Ricochet’s story is told through her co-stars, Veteran Griff, and the mother of a seven year old boy named Logan who has sensory processing disorder.
The free sensory friendly screenings encourage children to be themselves. They can talk, get up, dance, walk around, shout, sing and express themselves in their own way without parents having to worry about social anxiety.
The free military showings are geared toward service members and veterans from all branches of the armed forces. In addition, for those who have PTSD, knowing they will be among comrades will make the environment less daunting and anxiety provoking. Family members, care givers, therapists and doctors who treat PTSD are also invited.
The free presentation on “The Healing Power of Dogs” showcases a dog’s natural healing instincts. Audience members will learn how to interpret their dog’s subtle, and not so subtle behaviors in a new light.
