JOB DESCRIPTION

Loudoun County Department of Family Services is currently seeking qualified applicants for a Veteran Services Coordinator. The successful candidate will work with Veterans to screen their needs for employment, emergency services, housing, health care, education, mental health and family support. The position will provide information and referral services to Veterans regarding available resources in the community to ensure Veterans receive the most comprehensive services available to address their current issues and concerns. Coordinates with federal, regional, county agencies, and local non-profits to assure Veterans receive the appropriate services and resources. Conducts outreach in the community to promote the program as a central point of contact for Veteran related needs. Will initiate and participate in Veteran focused community events and job fairs.

Performs public presentations on Veteran related issues and concerns to Veterans, their families, professionals and the community; performs research and provides outreach and advocacy to secure new resources to assist Veterans and their families. Recruits, trains and supervises volunteers to provide assistance to Veterans. The successful candidate will need to be able to be creative, organized and provide excellent customer service to Veterans and the community and have extensive experience in coordinating and collaborating with partner agencies, non-profit service providers and other State and local government entities that serve Veterans. Requires excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills and experience in delivering presentations to both large and small groups.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, human services, psychology or related field and at least 2 years’ experience in the Veteran’s services arena or related experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate must have the knowledge and experience of working with federal, regional and local veteran services. Possess the ability to understand the variety of barriers Veterans experience regarding employment, mental health and family related issues. Some evening hours and weekend work will be required.
