FITNESS FOR MILITARY FAMILY MENTAL HEALTH

Brought to you by the Workhouse Arts Center, Workhouse Military in the Arts Initiative.

Ever wondered how fitness can be an effective tool for good mental health maintenance? Lead by Art of Movement Director Lesley Spalding and Dr. Marilyn Peppers-Citizen (USAF Retired, Certified Yoga Therapist, Wellness Coach and author of Change Your Health, Change Your Life: Blending Dimensions of Wellness), this workshop introduces veterans and their family members to a variety of yoga and fitness (cardio, strength-training) oriented exercises and movements that help to reduce negative symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress, chronic pain and other mental health concerns experienced by veterans, their family members and caregivers as part of the ongoing challenging aspects of military life. By the end of the workshop, attendees will learn basic fitness strategies (as coping skills) to successfully manage military life stressors, thus improving military family functioning and resiliencies.

Saturday January 25, 10am-12pm

Location: Workhouse Arts Center 9518 Workhouse Way, Lorton, VA 22079
