Project Horse offering Mental Health First Aid Trainings in Purcellville

Mental Health First Aid Trainings at Project Horse Empowerment Center

In 2020, Project Horse will be offering 4 one-day trainings in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). Just like CPR and basic first aid, learning first aid for mental health is crucial! Whether we officially work with specific populations, or we support them informally, having a knowledge in basic mental health is so important.

Each 8-hour MHFA training gives you the skills and awareness to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses, substance use disorders, and crises/emergencies. In these wonderful trainings, you will gain practical knowledge in how to safely interact with someone in crisis, and get mock experience in helping to de-escalate a situation. This information and experience is priceless!

MHFA is geared towards any adult who is helping, supporting, and/or working with others. This year, they will have specialized training modules scheduled for 3 different, specific populations:

  1. Veterans (trainings on March 28 & November 14)

  2. Adults (training June 20)

  3. Youth (training September 19)*

*The Youth Module is outstanding for anyone working with adolescents, including teachers, guidance counselors, coaches, and parents!

Upon completion of each 8-hour training, you will receive a 3-year certification in Mental Health First Aid for the specific module completed.

FOR QUALIFYING EAGALA-CERTIFIED MEMBERS:
MHFA trainings also offer 8 hours of approved CEUs through the EAGALA Independent Study Program. There is no additional fee to obtain EAGALA CEUs.
