The Veterans Initiative of George Mason University announces the following free Veterans Events at the Hylton Performing Arts Center:

September 10th from 3:00 to 6:30 p.m.

A conference, Honoring 9/11 by Helping First Responders find Hope, Healing & Resilience, is being held to honor the 15th anniversary of 9/11 and the “first responder” community including police, fire, rescue and Veterans.  First responders share similar experiences and many deal with PTSD, depression and suicide as the aftermath of these experiences.  To help address these issues, the film “Rebirth: Brian’s Journey” will be shown during the conference and stories of hope and resilience will be shared by some of our country’s bravest.  Project Rebirth, the City of Manassas, Sempre K9 Assistance Dogs, the Americans in Wartime Museum and the Hylton Center cordially invite you to this evening of hope and healing.  All are welcome.

In addition to the conference on September 10th, mark your calendars for this year’s week of Veterans Day events at the Hylton Center.  The week will feature a concert by The United States Army Band Pershing’s Own on November 9th, a special performance for students by Exit 12 Dance Company, a company founded by a Marine Iraq War Veteran who specializes in meaningful dialogue about war for Veterans and civilians on November 10th, and our community celebration on Veterans Day: Veterans and the Arts from 10 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on November 11th.  This special event (Azalea Charities, presenting sponsor) will include a second performance (for all audiences) by Exit 12, musical performances, an exhibition of Veterans’ artwork, and interactive arts experiences including movement and yoga workshops.  Veteran resource information tables will also be available along with complimentary refreshments and lite fare. A detailed schedule of events will be posted soon to our website HyltonCenter.org.

All of the events listed above are free and open to the public.
