VA Women’s Health Transition Training

Tuesday, July 23rd at the VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Montgomery County. Join AMVETS and the VA for a women Veteran-led training covering topics such as Transformed VA Culture, Range of VA Women's Health & Mental Health Services, VA Health Care Eligibility and Enrollment and much more. This training is for active duty service women who plan to transition to civilian, Reserves, National Guard or veteran status in 2019 or 2020. It is also open to any female veteran who has not enrolled in VA medical care. Registration is required.

Free Disabilities Benefits Review for Veterans

The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Easterseals will be hosting a Free Disabilities Benefits Claims Review for Veterans. Wednesday, July 24th from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Meet with a trained nationally accredited claims expert for 45 minutes to learn how to properly file a Fully Developed Claim for disability benefits. Registration Required.

Volunteer Opportunities with The Mission Continues

Bunker Labs and WeWork are accepting applications for the next tribe of WeWork Veterans in Residence Powered by Bunker Labs. Applications are now open until August 18th, 2019. Our next national tribe will launch in October 2019.

NOW ENROLLING: NAMI Homefront Online 

Registration is now open for the NAMI Homefront Online Program. NAMI Homefront is a free, 6-session program for family, friends and significant others of military Service Members and Veterans. The class helps families understand what the Service Member/ Veteran is experiencing related to trauma, combat stress, civilian life transition, PTSD and other mental health conditions.

Dog Tag Fellowship Program Accepting Applications

Dog Tag Inc. (DTI) empowers veterans with service-connected disabilities, military spouses, and caregivers to discover personal and professional fulfillment in the civilian world through an innovative business- and entrepreneurship-focused fellowship. They are currently enrolling for their Winter 2020 Fellowship. The five-month program enables fellows to dip their toe back into education, gain first-hand experience in a real small business, explore a wide variety of civilian career paths, and acquire soft skills through professional workshops. Upon completion of the fellowship, DTI alumni are business-ready, competitive, and employable.

Veterans Appreciation Day at Heavy Metal Playground

Veterans are invited to come out and experience the fun and excitement of playing on heavy equipment. This includes digging in the dirt, stacking tires and smashing cars! Townhall Meeting Regarding Southeast DC CBOC

All veterans, veteran service organizations and veteran families are invited to participate in a Town Hall Meeting focused on the potential closing of the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Southeast DC. Wednesday, July 17th at 7:00 pm. This meeting will provide insight on potential closing, clinic usage and how the closure will impact veterans who use the CBOC. Registration is requested.

Troops to Teachers

Join USO-Metro and Project Next S.T.E.P. for an information session with Troops to Teachers. Thursday, July 31st from 6:00-8:00 pm at the USO Warrior and Family Center at Fort Belvoir. Learn about the certification process and how you can continue to serve after your military career. Open to transitioning active duty service members including Guard and Reserves.

On Tuesday, July 16 at 12:00pm EST AARP and the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) are launching a four-part webinar to help veterans and military-connected business owners become successful entrepreneurs. The IVMF at Syracuse University and AARP have teamed up to help veterans and military-connected business owners understand where they are on their entrepreneurial journey in a 4-part webinar series. Together they will host a webinar series where experts will discuss how to manage your time and identify the right type of funding for your business in order to position yourself for success!
