Webinar: Four Key Practices in Crisis Care & Suicide Prevention

Date: April 30, 2019

Time: 1:00-3:00 p.m. EDT

Caring for service members, Veterans, and their families (SMVF) in crisis requires a comprehensive and coordinated approach.  In the immediate period after transitioning from acute care, SMVF are at an increased risk of dying by suicide.  The critical period during and after an individual’s presentation in a healthcare setting offers an opportunity to implement evidence-based crisis intervention protocols and services.  Integrating the following key best practices into interagency SMVF suicide prevention plans will help to ensure high-quality suicide care for SMVF in crisis:

  • Implementing universal screening
  • Developing safety plans
  • Establishing lethal means safety measures
  • Promoting connectedness with supportive, follow-up contacts

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), in partnership with Veterans Health Administration (VHA), is pleased to support this webinar focused on strengthening community crisis systems and suicide care for SMVF through the implementation of four key best practices.  This webinar will be highly interactive and will provide examples and resources to help participants better serve SMVF in their communities.
