The Veterans Awards, also known as the Vettys, is an annual award ceremony presented by the Academy of United States Veterans. The awards honor members of the veteran community in the United States in various categories. The 6th Annual Veterans Awards will shine a light on the mental health epidemic that surrounds many of our military and civilian families. 

Support Fellow Veterans by Sharing Stories with Make the Connection

The Make the Connection team is conducting on-camera interviews in the DMV with veterans and their family members who want to share their stories about seeking mental health treatment and overcoming their challenges. Videos of their interviews will be added to hundreds of others that encourage Veterans to reach out for support.

Discovering Your Spark in 2 Locations!

Exciting news that USO-Metro will be hosting Brittany Boccher, 2017 Military Spouse of the Year, for TWO of her Discover Your Spark workshops in February. Military spouses will have the opportunity to talk about how to live their best lives with passion and purpose. These events will be held at Fort Belvoir and Fort Meade in February!

Voices of Experience: Living Well with Mental Illness

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Maryland and its local affiliate, NAMI Southern Maryland, are hosting Voices of Experience: Living Well with Mental Illness © for the first time ever in Southern Maryland on January 14, 2020.  This free program features trained speakers who share their personal journeys with mental illness and recovery.  There will also be a paid, pre-event reception for sponsors, decision makers, influencers, speakers, and other VIPs. 

Blood Drive at Loudoun’s River Creek Club

Winterhaven Homeless Veterans Stand-Down

The Washington DC VAMC Winterhaven Homeless Veterans Stand-Down will be Saturday, January 25, 2020, from 8 am to 1 pm.  It will be held at the Washington DC VAMC located at 50 Irving St., Washington DC, 20422.

Veterans Book Club

Join the Howard County Library System on the first Sunday of each month beginning on January 5, 2020 from 1:00-3:00 PM for their Veterans Book Club. Held at the Central Branch 10375 Little Patuxent Pkwy, Columbia, MD. Lunch and all reading materials are provided. Participants are encouraged to attend all sessions. This is free and open to veterans only please. Registration is required.

Freer|Sackler Family Day with Hokusai

Blue Star Families invites you to attend a family workshop and tour of the new Hokusai Exhibit at Freer|Sackler! The workshop, The Art of Japanese Fabric Wrapping, will give you the opportunity to make a furoshiki wrapping cloth. Saturday, January 11th from 2:00-4:00 PM in Washington DC. Open to active-duty personnel, Guard, Reserves, veterans, wounded warriors, caregivers, EFMP members, and their families. Space is limited. Registration is required.
