Capital Bikeshare Memberships to District Veterans

The DC Mayor's Office of Veteran's Affairs (MOVA) has partnered with Capital Bikeshare to give free annual Capital Bikeshare memberships to District veterans! DC veterans can sign up for their free one-year membership at the MOVA Office!** Please bring proof of veteran status and DC residency. Enroll at the MOVA Office during working hours (M-F, 9am - 5pm).

Elizabeth Dole Foundation Accepting Applications for Hidden Heroes Fund

The Elizabeth Dole Foundation is now accepting grant applications for the 2019 Hidden Heroes Fund. This fund is dedicated to supporting innovative programs that make a direct impact on the lives of America’s military and veteran caregivers.The Foundation seeks proposals for innovative programs that can make a direct impact on the lives of America's military caregivers. Applications will be accepted through April 5, 2019.

New Politics Leadership Academy Enrolling for 5 Week Session

New Politics Leadership Academy, a nonpartisan non-profit organization that offers leadership development program for veterans is now enrolling for their Washington DC based program, Answering The Call. Answering the Call is an opportunity for service alumni to reflect on who they are as leaders and if they feel called to political service. Applications are currently open through April 8th.

Walking Together, a Retreat for Warriors & Caregivers

Walking Together, a Retreat for Warriors and Caregivers is open to all veterans, active duty and reserve military, spouses, and caregivers. During the walk participants will reflect on spiritual and personal life journeys. Saturday, March 30 from 9:30am - 2:00pm in Washington DC. This workshop will be led by Susan Mitchell, a member of the Ministry team and a lay chaplain who previously led our veterans' writing workshops on the Lament Psalms during the Spring and Fall of 2018. Registration is required.

Open Call for Military Brats Art Exhibition

The Workhouse Military in the Arts Initiative invites all children of active duty or retired service members, veterans and reservists (ages 5+) to submit a single artwork. The exhibition features work representing military children, affectionately knows as "military brats," a badge of honor that describes life in a military family- multiple moves, new beginnings, stressors, deployments - an overall culturally unique experience differing from civilian life as expressed through original artwork. Images must be digitally sent for review and inclusion by March 22, 2019.

Coffee Connect for Military Spouses

Join the USO as they host a small gathering for military spouses to connect with each other while enjoying a cup of coffee. This is a great way to network, share advice, discuss local events and meet new friends. Coffee Chats are held from 10:00-11:00 am at the USO. Wednesday, March 20th Fort Meade USO Center and Thursday, March 28th at the USO Warrior and Family Center, Fort Belvoir, Open to all active duty spouses. Registration is required.

Corporate Gray Military Friendly Job Fair

Friday, March 29th at the Army Navy Country Club from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM. Employer Panel Discussion at 8AM. Meet face-to-face with dozens of employers - small businesses, large businesses and government agencies. Visit the Corporate Gray website for a list of participating employers. This event is designed especially for transitioning and former military and family members seeking employment. Pre-registration recommended.

Montgomery County COAD Stop the Bleed Training

Stop the Bleed is a national awareness campaign and call-to-action to encourage bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives. The Montgomery County Office of Emergency and Homeland Security is offering a Stop The Bleed training at The Steven A. Cohen Military and Family Clinic at Easterseals in Silver Spring on Thursday, March 14th from 3:00-4:00 PM. This is a free training. Registration is required.
