Loudoun County Veterans: Honor Flight Trip – Sept 7, 2019

On Saturday, September 7, 2019, the “Honor Flight – Top of Virginia” organization will sponsor a special Honor Flight for Loudoun County WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans.  The free one day program includes a visit to the various war memorials and to Arlington National Cemetery.

Virginia Women Veterans Week – March 17-23 

The Commonwealth will officially honor all women who served in the U.S. military during Virginia Women Veterans Week, March 17-23, 2019. This marks the second year that the state will devote a week to recognize the service and sacrifice of the more than 104,000 women veterans who call Virginia home. Virginia boasts the highest percentage of women veterans per capita of any state in America. 

Caregiver Resources Lunch & Learn March 21st

This workshop will cover resources for individuals who are caring for military service members and veterans. Topics will also include warning signs that a military service member or veteran may be in crisis. A discussion of resources will include Coaching into Care, the VA Caregiver Support Program, as well as State and Nonprofit resources. Presenter: Dana Burl, MA, Director of the Outreach and Advocacy Program at the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs. Thursday, March 21st 12:00-1:00 PM.

Tillman Scholar Applications Now Being Accepted

The Tillman Scholar Program unites and empowers remarkable military veterans and spouses as the next generation of public and private sector leaders committed to service beyond self. The fellowship supports Tillman Scholars with academic scholarships, a national network, and professional development opportunities so they are empowered to make an impact in the fields of medicine, law, business, policy, technology, education and the arts. Applications are being accepted until 2/28/19 at 11:59 PM.

VA Launches Welcome Kit

VA launches welcome kit to guide Veterans to the benefits and services they’ve earned. No matter where you are in life, the new welcome kit will help you use the VA benefits and services you have earned. In addition to step-by-step enrollment instructions, the kit also lists points of contact for dozens of VA program offices.

Blue Star Families Military Family Lifestyle Survey Results

The Blue Star Families annual Military Family Lifestyle Survey results, in collaboration with Syracuse University’s Institute for Veteran and Military Families, are here! With over 10,000 respondents including service members, veterans, and their families, the #BSFSurvey received the highest response rate since its establishment ten years ago! The largest survey of its kind, it is used by policymakers in D.C. and across the country to learn about and meet the most pressing needs of military families like yours.

National AmericaServes In Practice Review – Feb 14

AmericaServes will be holding their Annual National In Practice Review on Thursday, February 14 from 10 am - 12 pm at AUSA Conference & Event Center in Arlington. For those not able to attend in person, there is also a live stream option available to join remotely.

Reduced Fair SmarTrip Cards for Disabled Veterans

WMATA is offering Reduced Fare SmarTrip ID cards to Veterans with a VA disability rating of 60% or greater. Obtaining a Reduced Fare SmarTrip ID can reduce costs by as much as 50% on Metrorail, Metrobus, MARC, MTA, and other participating providers. Rather than requiring a trip to Metro HQ, WMATA is offering additional opportunities to apply for their Disability Reduced Fare Program at the Pentagon Metro Station on specific dates until May 2019.
