Community Assistance Panel (CAP) Meetings

Were you or someone you know at Camp Lejuene between 1953 and 1987? Attend the 2019 CAP Meeting in person or online to learn about health studies and other work done by ATSDR at Camp Lejeune. Hear from subject matter experts about ongoing scientific research and recent findings. Learn about public health assessments and health study updates. Participate in the public forum for affected Marines, military service members, veterans, family members, and concerned citizens-ask questions, share concerns, and learn more. Saturday September 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Hilton Crystal City.

Free Film Event

The Frederick County Senior Services Division is co-sponsoring a free movie event to raise awareness of the issues surrounding caregiving and dementia. A screening of "What They Had" will take place from 1-4:30pm on September 26th at the Jack B. Kussmaul Theater, Frederick Community College. Following the screening an expert panel will discuss dementia, caregiving and ways to help the community to become more Dementia Friendly. This is a free event.

Veteran Improv Workshop

Introductory Improv for Military Veterans. Whether you have always wanted to step onstage and make an audience laugh, or the thought of speaking in public terrifies you; this class is for you. You will learn how to use improv to focus on using communication, collaboration, trust and acceptance as the central tools to generate creativity. Six Thursday evening sessions begin starting 9/19 from 7:00-9:00PM. This class is free to veterans. Registration is required.

Hero’s Bridge Volunteer Info Session

Interested in helping veterans? Join Hero's Bridge for an informative training to learn how you can make an impact by volunteering for their Battle Buddy Program. Saturday, September 21st from 10am-12pm. RSVP requested.

Hopeful Strategies for Senior Hoarding – CEU Event

Hoarding has become a serious problem impacting the health and safety of older adults, most of who can be resistant to treatment. This workshop will feature Joanna Frankel and is great for Case Managers and Social Workers. 1 CEU will be awarded. Please RSVP by September 6.

Dominion Energy Veterans Guitar Workshop Series

The Dominion Energy Veterans Guitar Workshop Series is free to Veterans, Servicemembers, their families, and military caregivers. The workshop series will occur on Tuesday evenings from September 3 – November 5. Level I is from 7 – 7:45 p.m., and Level II is from 8 – 8:45 p.m., as well as a guitar workshop on the afternoon of Saturday, November 9 at the Hylton Center’s annual Celebrating Veterans and the Arts event. Space is limited and registration is required.

Behavioral Health Administration’s Recovery Month Kickoff Event

Warrior 2 Soul Mate Relationship Workshops

Military service can present challenges in marriages including financial, long separation, multiple deployments and more. These challenges can add stress to family and relationship. Join the DC VA Medical Center for a Two-Day couples workshop where you will learn about emotional understanding and behaviors that nurture and sustain healthy relationships and loving families. September 14 and 15th from 8:30am - 5:00pm at the DC Vet Center. Registration is required. Open to all veterans and their partners.
