The American Red Cross offers free reconnection workshops aimed to help military, veterans and their families readjust to civilian life.

Blue Star Families – Caregivers Event – Feb 3

Blue Star Families will be hosting an event for service member and veteran caregivers on Friday, February 3 from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm at the Soldier & Family Assistance Center on Fort Belvoir. The event will allow fellow caregivers to learn the benefits of essential oils. Lunch, chocolate fondue found, and personalized oils will be provided.

Military Family Movie Night at the J – Jan 28

Project Welcome Home is having a Military Family Movie Night & Dinner on Saturday, Jan 28 at 6:30 pm at the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia. They will be watching the “Sandlot” – a great family movie – and enjoy baseball food – hot dogs, pretzels, peanuts, and popcorn. Fee: $5 per person; $20 max per family.

Dominion Energy Veteran Guitar Workshop Series – Spring 2018

The Hylton Performing Arts Center's Veterans and the Arts Initiative will be kicking off their Dominion Energy Veteran Guitar Workshop Series in February 2018. Holding Level I and Level II sessions on Tuesdays from February 20 through April 24. These sessions are free for veterans, servicemembers, and their families and caregivers! They will also hold January Jam workshops on Jan 16 & 30 from 7 - 8:30 pm. Check out hyltoncenter.org/veterans for further information and instructions on how to register.

Vince Kaspar Prizes for Excellence in the Arts

The Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 227 and the Memorial Day Writers' Project announce the 21st Annual Vince Kaspar Prizes for Excellence in the Arts. Now accepting applications to be awarded for poetry and fine art by juniors and seniors who live or attend school in Fairfax or Arlington counties, cities of Falls Church, Vienna, Alexandria, and Fairfax.

Stars, Stripes, and Snowflakes Holiday Party December 4th

Stars, Stripes, and Snowflakes is a special time for us to recognize and celebrate our military families with a special visit with Santa, activities for the whole family, raffle prizes for the adults, and gifts for the children. This event is open to active duty (E-6 and below) and Wounded Warriors.

American Red Cross Reconnection Workshops

The Red Cross offers a series of five different workshops designed for service members, veterans, and their families The workshops are free and available to all those impacted by a military deployment from all branches of the Armed Forces, which includes Reserve, National Guard, active duty service members, veterans and their families, including spouses, parents, siblings, significant others and close friends. along with two modules designed for children. Each workshop is facilitated by trained mental health providers and are approximately 1.5 hours in length. The Reconnection Workshops are confidential small-group modules, led by licensed mental health professionals.

NAMI Homefront Free Mental Health Course October 12th

NAMI Homefront is a free, six-session education program for family, friends and significant others who have veterans or active duty service members with mental health conditions. The course runs October 12 to November 19 (Wednesdays 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. Registration required.
