Mental Fitness Jan 25th

Hosted by Workhouse Military in the Arts Initiative, this workshop introduces veterans and their family members to a variety of yoga and fitness (cardio, strength-training) oriented exercises and movements that help to reduce negative symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress, chronic pain and other mental health concerns experienced by veterans, their family members and caregivers as part of the ongoing challenging aspects of military life. By the end of the workshop, attendees will learn basic fitness strategies (as coping skills) to successfully manage military life stressors, thus improving military family functioning and resiliencies. Saturday, January 25th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Free to Active Duty, Veteran, Retired Veteran, and Family of Military. Registration Required.

Providing Health Care for Military Veterans Webinar

The purpose of this knowledge-based live series is to further educate non-VA providers and healthcare teams an in-depth review the whole health system of care, including the elements of the model in action throughout the country, implementation and evaluation strategies as well as testimonials from Veterans receiving this care, and a discussion around provision of complementary and integrative health within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and in the community. This webinar will take place on Thursday, November 21 at 1:00 PM EST. Registration is required.

Defusing Anger Workshop

Join the American Red Cross and the Steven A Cohen Military Family Clinic at Easterseals for a Defusing Anger Workshop on Saturday, 10/26 at 9am in Silver Spring, MD. This workshop address the anger that can occur when service members, veterans and military families undergo stress. This is a free and confidential program that offers ways to work through challenges and build skills through small-group discussions and hands-on activities. Registration requested.

American Military Heritage Museum D-Day Events

Join the American Military Heritage Museum June 9th and June 9th for "The 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Invasion" event. A large collection of WWII equipment and vehicles and displays from various wars are on display. Saturday & Sunday, 9:30am - 5:00pm in Stephens City, VA.

Babies on the Homefront Workshop

Caregiving While Caring for Your Young Child. Are you a parent or guardian caring for a baby or toddler? The VA Caregiver Support Line and ZERO TO THREE have collaborated to present a workshop in support of Military and Veteran Families who are also caring for the needs of young children. This workshop by ZERO TO THREE will provide tools and resources to support you as a parent, help you understand your child’s development, and appreciate what your child is trying to tell you in those oh-so challenging moments. Join us in this partnership as we support you in balancing the needs of your family while also caring for the blossoming developments of your “Babies on the Home front!” This online webinar will take place on Thursday, April 4th at 7:00pm. The workshop is free but registration is required. There is a phone in option for those unable to be online at the time of the webinar.

Open Call for Military Brats Art Exhibition

The Workhouse Military in the Arts Initiative invites all children of active duty or retired service members, veterans and reservists (ages 5+) to submit a single artwork. The exhibition features work representing military children, affectionately knows as "military brats," a badge of honor that describes life in a military family- multiple moves, new beginnings, stressors, deployments - an overall culturally unique experience differing from civilian life as expressed through original artwork. Images must be digitally sent for review and inclusion by March 22, 2019.
