USO Metro will be hosting an Employment Readiness Workshop on Fort Belvoir on Saturday, September 21 from 9:30 am - 1:00 pm. Open to transitioning servicemembers, veterans and military spouses.
The NSA Bethesda Fleet and Family Support Center and Navy College will host the NSA Bethesda Employment and Education Fair on Tuesday, September 12th from 10am-2pm. Registration is required and base access must be obtained for individuals without DOD access to base.
The Fort Belvoir Retiree Appreciation Day will be held on Friday, September 8 from 8 am - 3 pm. There will be a Breakfast, Health & Wellness Fair, & Lunch at the Specker Field House from 8 am - 12:45 pm. And then presentations at the Barden Education Center from 1 - 3 pm. Cake cutting will be held at Fort Belvoir Exchange at 3:30 pm.
Join Platoon 22 on September 10, 2017 in Lewistown MD to help raise awareness and raise funds for prevention of veteran suicide. The event will have tons of phenomenal prizes and 100% of proceeds go back to suicide prevention. Doors open at 12pm. Tickets can be purchased in advance.
The Veterans History Project (VHP) of the Library of Congress American Folklife Center is primarily an oral history program that collects and preserves the firsthand interviews of America's wartime veterans. The DC Mayor's office of Veterans Affairs conducts VHP interviews weekly. Interested veterans should contact the office to schedule and interview.
The American Red Cross will be holding Sound the Alarm Home Fire Prevention Campaign events in 3 locations in Prince Georges County and in Brightwood Park in DC in September and October 2017. In partnership with local fire departments, they are hoping to mobilize partners, volunteers, staff and community members/leaders to install nearly 2,000 smoke alarms. They are seeking volunteers to come out and join in this important effort.

USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore and Hewlett Packard Enterprise have teamed up to provide Business Basics -- a program designed to give participants real-world corporate skills targeted around "how to get things done in Corporate America". This program includes online classes, individual mentoring, classroom instruction and practical application exercises which will help transitioning service members hit the ground running in their first job after the military. Classes will be held at the USO Warrior and Family Center at Fort Belvoir Thursdays from 6:00 - 9:30pm September 7 - October 12. Applications will be accepted through 5:00pm Tuesday, August 29. Space is limited and a completed and submitted application does not guarantee a spot.
The Joint Base Andrews 2017 Air Show will be held on Saturday & Sunday, September 16-17. It is free and open to the public. Rehearsal day will be held on Friday, September 15 open to DoD ID card holders only.
