Upcoming Events at Shepard University

Shepherd University Martinsburg Center has three exciting events in December. Join them on Dec 4th for their Holiday Open House. On Dec 5th they will hold a free seminar where you will learn from government experts about contracting opportunities and the "HOW TO" with the Veterans Administration (VA). And on Dec 31st, join Shepherd University and Main Street Martinsburg in the Martinsburg Town Square for this FREE, family, fun event with live music, giveaways and fellowship.

Project Next S.T.E.P. Transition Program

The USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore is now accepting applications for the next CCNA Cisco Certified Network Associate in Routing and Switching Course for transitioning service members and active duty spouses. Applications must be completed and submitted by 3:00pm on Decemeber 6th.

The Maryland General Assembly Veterans Caucus is holding the 2019 Veteran's Legislative Summit on December 11, 2019 at 9:00 AM at the Miller Senate Office Building. Join in a discussion on veteran specific issues and policy priorities for the upcoming 2020 Legislative Session. Please RSVP to attend.

Volunteer Opportunities at Promise Landing Farm

Promise Landing Farm is holding their first volunteer orientation and training at their facility in Upper Marlboro, MD on Wednesday, December 11th from 5:30 to 8:00 PM. Military, Veterans and family members interested in volunteering with the horses at the farm are encouraged to attend. Please RSVP and complete a volunteer form prior to attending.

Emotional Grit Workshop Dec 14

Join The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Easterseals and the American Red Cross on Saturday, 12/14 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm for a Holiday Ornament and Emotional Grit Workshop. Veterans and military families will learn how to understand the many emotions that come with challenges and transitions while painting beautiful holiday ornaments for the whole family! This workshop will help participants recognize when behaviors, thoughts and feelings are  manageable and when they could be signs or symptoms of depression. Registration is requested.

Senator Mark R. A Showcase of Veteran Artists Dec 5th

The Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP) invites you to a memorable evening of live music, laughter, and striking stories from their community of veteran-artists and special guests. Featuring performances by veteran comedians, musicians, and storytellers, the event will showcase our veteran-artists’ creative work and share the impact of the arts in their lives.  Reception 6:30 pm, Show 7:30 pm. International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day Nov 26

Each year, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention supports hundreds of large and small Survivor Day events around the world, in which suicide loss survivors come together to find connection, understanding and hope through their shared experience. Join them at the Columbia, MD event on Saturday, November 23rd from 1:00-4:00 PM. The event features an AFSP-produced documentary that offers a message of growth, resilience and connection.

Alarm.com G.R.I.T. Apprenticeship Program

Check out this new and ground-breaking technology apprenticeship opportunity targeted to Veterans and military spouses at Alarm.com.  The NVTC Veterans Employment Initiative is a partner with the Northern Virginia Community College working under a GO Virginia grant on this program and it includes full pay and benefits from day 1- no experience is required for either position but candidates will be assessed for aptitude.  Note that the deadline for submissions is 1 December 2019.
