VAMC 12th Annual HeroHaven Homeless Veterans Stand Down

All HeroHaven 2020 activities will be held outside at the front entrance of the Martinsburg VA Medical Center, bldg. 500. There are no inside activities. The goal is for homeless Veterans to STOP at the Stand Down areas, they will DROP off information/resources and items to them and the Veteran will ROLL out.

DD-214 Expedited Issuance Process

The National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) has an expedited process for handling requests for proof of release or discharge from active duty—Department of Defense Form 2014 (DD-214)—for Veterans who are homeless or facing medical emergencies.VA staff may submit Standard Form 180 (SF-180)—Request Pertaining to Military Records—to NPRC on a Veteran’s behalf to secure his/her DD-214. Priority handling of requests allows for the expedited confirmation of eligibility for VA services.

Project Homeless Connect DC Event October 3rd

Sponsored by the United Way of the National Capital Area, Project Homeless Connect puts essential services under one roof at the area’s largest resource fair for those experiencing homelessness. This year's event will take place at the DC Armory on Thursday, October 3rd from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM. This is a free event. Transportation from several local DC establishments is available. There will be a specific section featuring services and programs for homeless veterans.

Maryland’s Commitment to Veterans Eastern Region Conference

Maryland's Commitment to Veterans would like to invite you to register for their Eastern Region Conference to be held June 25th at 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa And Marina. Topics this year include, military culture awareness, veteran benefits and as well as Opioid use in the Veteran population. In addition there will be a homeless services panel, and a panel of experts to discuss aging as it relates to veterans and their families. lunch provided as well as 5.5 CEU's for anyone who indicates their interest on registration. Registration is required.

Loudoun County Homeless Services Drop In Center

Beginning May 28th the Loudoun County Drop-In Center will return to its permanent location at the Loudoun Homeless Services Center in Leesburg, VA. Drop-In Services include access to showers and laundry facilities and meals.

Convoy of Hope Community Event

The Convoy of Hope Community event will be held Saturday, June 1 in Woodbridge, VA. Hope Starts Here in your city, your community, your neighborhood. The Convoy of Hope event is just the beginning of a long-lasting movement that has the power to transform people’s lives, inspire compassion and service and bring people and organizations together like never before. This is a collaborative effort to bring hope to a city through free groceries, health screenings, job fairs, family portraits, haircuts, prayer, activities for children and more.

The Veterans Mental Health Advisory at the Washington DC VA Medical Center in partnership with House of Prosperity Everlasting (H.O.P.E.) is sponsoring an information session with homeless veterans and their family members to identify mental healthcare challenges of homeless veterans in the DMV.

Volunteers Needed to Help Address Homelessness

EveryMind’s Homeless Outreach team is partnering with Montgomery County to complete the Up-County Point in Time (PIT) Homeless Count. This is a one night event on January 23, 2019 from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Over 40 volunteers are needed to make it successful. Consider spending a few hours to help address homelessness in Montgomery County. The results of the Count helps determine the level of services the County needs to provide to support our community’s most vulnerable members.
