HillVets Lead Program Accepting Applications
HillVets LEAD. the premier public policy and leadership program for veterans in the United States is looking for dedicated individuals looking to spend up to 3 hours a week for 12 weeks improving their skills alongside some of our Nation’s most sought after leaders. Individuals will join a lifelong “fireteam” of 6 who will push each other to success. The program is accepting applications for participation now thru August 30, 2019.
Supporting Military Caregivers in the Workplace
AARP, Elizabeth Dole Foundation, and U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation - Hiring Our Heroes invite you to a special event to learn more about how business leaders can combat the employment challenges military caregivers face in their own workplaces. Tuesday, September 10th from 9:00-11:30 am at the Newseum in Washington DC. This is a free event. Registration is required.
Volunteers Needed for Capital Caring
Want to make a difference? The Capital Caring Volunteer Team is looking for volunteers to visit military service members who are receiving hospice services and conduct small, informal ceremonies for them. This is a perfect volunteer opportunity for veterans and active duty service members looking to help fellow veterans.
Military Personnel and Veteran-owned Small Business Loan Program
New applications for the Military Personnel and Veteran-owned Small Business Loan Program (MPVSBLP) are being accepted now through August 30th. MPVSBLP provides no interest loans of up to $50,000, from one to eight years, for businesses owned by military reservists, veterans, National Guard personnel and for small businesses that employ or are owned by such persons.
2019 Behavioral Health Symposium
The MD Army National Guard Behavioral Health Team and Resilience, Risk Reduction & Suicide Prevention (R3SP) team are joining forces to host the 2019 Behavioral Health Symposium on Saturday, September 7th at the Dundalk Armory. This year's Symposium will offer Advanced Skills Training in the areas of Suicide Prevention, Substance Abuse, and Resilience. Behavioral health, medical, resilience, suicide intervention, drug testing, military police, and chaplain personnel are encouraged to attend. REGISTRATION HAS OPENED UP FOR ALL BEHAVIORAL HEALTH PROVIDERS AND FIRST RESPONDERS!!! FREE CEUs for Counselors, Psychologists, and Social Workers sponsored by Maryland's Commitment to Veterans. Senior Community Services Employment Program (SCSEP)
There will be an informational event about the Senior Community Services Employment Program on Thursday, August 29th from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Loudoun Workforce Resource Center. Come out to learn more and find out if you are eligible for opportunities and services provided by this program to older Americans interested in jobs in their communities.
Volunteers Needed for Project Homeless Connect
Project Homeless Connect is a one day event by the United Way of the National Capital Area that brings together essential services at the largest resource fair to meet the needs of our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness. This year's PHC event will take place on Thursday, October 3rd from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the DC Armory. Volunteers are needed for day of support as well as for several roles leading up to the Oct 3rd event.
