Veterans Legal Assistance Conference & Training

Designed for lawyers, law students, veterans, policymakers and other service professionals, the Maryland Pro Bono Resource Center will hold their annual Veterans Conference virtually this year on Friday, June 4th. This Veterans Legal Assistance Training provides a forum for discussion of critical legal issues facing our veterans.  It features substantive panels on hot topics in veterans law and also offers training to volunteer lawyers who commit to provide pro bono assistance to veterans in need.

Mental Health First Aid

The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Easterseals is partnering with ServingTogether, a program of EveryMind to offer a Virtual Military Mental Health First Aid Training. This 8-hour virtual workshop covers topics such as depression, anxiety, suicide, psychosis, substance abuse and more, especially how they relate to working with our military and veteran connected populations. The workshop is provided FREE for military, veterans, their families and those who work or support them.

Make the Connection

The Make the Connection Mental Health Month website will provide resources to help guide Veterans and their family members and friends along their mental health journey. Whether a Veteran is looking to take the next step — or the first step — on their path to a healthier life, together we can let them know that mental health treatment works, and recovery is possible.

Rock Creek Park Hiking, Boating & Wellness Event for Military Families

Join Blue Star Families, Leidos, and Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Easterseals for a free, family-friendly hiking, boating, and wellness event at Lake Needwood in Rock Creek Regional Park. Saturday, June 19th from 10AM-12PM EST. This event is open to military, guard, reserve and veteran families. Each registered guest will receive a complimentary backpack and water bottle. Paddle boat rentals will be provided free of charge to registered guests and every child 18 and under will receive a Buddy Bison stuffed animal from the National Park Trust!

On behalf of Dr. Matthew Miller, Director of Suicide Prevention, the Department of Veteran Affairs is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the 2021 Department of Defense (DOD) and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Suicide Prevention Conference, to be held virtually May 18-20, 2021. This year’s theme, Make Every Connection Count: Putting the 7 Strategies for Suicide Prevention to Work, promotes a comprehensive approach to prevention, which uses evidence-informed programs, tools, and practices to foster connectedness, increase coping and problem-solving, create protective environments, and strengthen suicide care, among other efforts. Suicide prevention among our Service members, Veterans, and families is a top priority for the DOD and VA.
