Operation Homefront will be hosting a Caregiver Retreat in Hanover, MD on July 20-22. Any Post 9/11 Caregivers that register with Operation Homefront are eligible to attend retreats. For this retreat, they'd love to focus on caregivers in MD, DC, and Northern Virginia.

Veterans Assistance and Nutrition Program

In our continued efforts to help address unmet needs of Veterans and their families, Blue Star Families of the National Capital Region and EveryMind’s ServingTogether offer the Veterans Assistance and Nutrition (VAN) program. The VAN program accepts intake referrals from Veterans, spouses of Veterans, or direct caregivers of Veterans in the National Capital Region. Qualified applicants will receive a Safeway gift card or gas card, depending on their needs.

Treatment Approaches and Veteran Experiences Involving Mental Health

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the Washington DC VA Medical Center, DC Vet Center and community partners are hosting an in person and virtual seminar on May 12 to discuss approaches to mental health in the veteran community. The seminar will be held in person at the DC Vet Center, and will also be available as a Webex livestream for anyone that wishes to attend virtually.

Military Wellness Community Connection

Business around the Fort Meade Community! June and July are busy months for military families moving to the area so in an effort to welcome them and introduce them to recreational, fitness, and wellness programs in the community, we are asking for your support. We will have a special webpage dedicated to local businesses that share a free or discounted class or workshop (i.e., yoga, martial arts, dance, fitness, equine therapy, art) during the month of June.

Employment Resources Discussion

Our March Collaborative focused on organizations that help veterans access employment and training resources to advance meaningful careers in the community. This will be a 2 part series taking place in March and April, and this month we hosted speakers from local and national entities including: The Baltimore Mayor's Office of Employment Development (MOED), VetJobs/CASY, NPower, and VA's VR&E program.
