Technology Drive for Veterans

Northern Virginia Technology Council is proud to partner with AbleVets and Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce to collect new and used technology to donate to Tech for Troops (T4T). Ten sites in Northern VA and Washington DC will be accepting donation drop offs now through July 26th (see full post for locations.) All donations are tax deductible. Tech for Troops is a non-profit based in Richmond, VA, whose mission is to bridge the digital divide for Veterans and their families. Donations to T4T are refurbished and provided free of charge to Veterans in need, who also can receive IT training and job opportunities.

Townhall Meeting Regarding Southeast DC CBOC

All veterans, veteran service organizations and veteran families are invited to participate in a Town Hall Meeting focused on the potential closing of the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Southeast DC. Wednesday, July 17th at 7:00 pm. This meeting will provide insight on potential closing, clinic usage and how the closure will impact veterans who use the CBOC. Registration is requested.

Introduction to Hero Dogs

Would you like to learn more about Hero Dogs? Are you interested in volunteering*? Are you a veteran or first responder who may be interested in applying to receive a service dog? This presentation is for anyone who is interested in learning more about Hero Dogs, whether as a potential applicant, volunteer, donor, or other supporter. July 21st from 12:30 PM - 02:30 PM ET. Registration is required.

Volunteer Opportunity to Work with Service Dogs In Training

MK9s seeks to provide highly trained service dogs tailored to meet specific veteran needs at no cost to the qualified and deserving veteran. Costs are kept to a minimum by a dedicated all volunteer force who raise and train the puppies for free. Costs are therefore limited to purchasing the puppies, feeding and veterinary care during the training period. Please consider becoming a volunteer or canine mentor with MK9s service dogs.

Alexandria Veterans Curation Program Meet & Greet -July 18

The Alexandria Veterans Curation Program currently provides vocational rehabilitation and innovative training to twelve recently-separated veterans using archaeological collections administered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This event will provide you with a chance to meet the veterans and to learn more about the program.

Veterans Resource & Recognition Day

Wednesday, July 10th from 9:00am - 2:00pm at the Frederick Senior Center. Featuring Keynote Speaker: Colonel Laureen Barone, USA, Retired, Department of Veteran Affairs. Meet representatives of area agencies and organizations serving veterans. Visit the Mobile VET Center. Receive on-site assistance. Lunch catered by Palmtree Catering. Reservations required.

EFT, HeartMath & Mindfullness with the USO

Join the USO Warrior & Family Center at Ft. Belvoir on Tuesday, July 2nd from 6:00-8:00pm to learn short, effective Mindfullness, HearthMath & EFT practice; three powerful techniques proven to remove stress. You may reserve up to 6 tickets per family. Parents must stay with their children throughout the event.

Women Veterans Interactive Chapters in Northern VA

Join Women Veterans Interactive this Saturday, June 29th at Mission BBQ in Sterling Virginia to learn more about Women Veterans Interactive's plans for chapter in the Northern VA area. Mission BBQ is hosting the meeting and providing attendees with a fantastic free lunch. Registration is required.

Veterans Summer Social

Come join The American Legion, Marine Corps League, and Team RWB for a Veteran Summer Social at Dillons Wood in Purcellville. All veterans and their families are invited out for free food, games, commraderie, and live music! While food is provided, we ask that you please bring a side dish or dessert (if you are able). Art and MindBody Skills at The Cohen Clinic

On June 22nd the Steven A Cohen Military and Family Clinic is offering two free workshops to military, veterans and their families. Join them for Mind-Body Skills Workshop facilitated by the American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces, 6/22 from 9:00-10:00am and Art with Heart Workshop, 6/22 from 10:00am-12:00pm.
