Become a Mentor for TAPS

500 current and former members of the military are needed to mentor children of the fallen at TAPS 25th Annual National military Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp. This year's seminar and camp will be held May 24-27, 2019 in Arlington VA but mentors are needed now to sign up and participate. As a mentor, you'll be a buddy to a brave child throughout the event as they share and connect with other surviving kids and learn how to honor their loved ones. You may do art projects and play silly games. You may throw footballs and cheer them on in relays. You'll definitely create lasting memories and feel pride in yourself for the work you've done. Sign up today!

Maryland’s Commitment To Veterans Southern MD Conference

Join Maryland's Commitment to Veterans (MCV) and the team from Melwood Veteran Services' Operation Tohidu for this year's MCV Southern Maryland Conference. This year’s Conference will cover several topics concerning veteran behavioral health from various perspectives. Lunch will be provided, and an additional 5.75 Continuing Education Units will be available to all attendees who indicate this on the eventbrite registration. This event is being held at the Operation Tohidu Retreat grounds. Participants will have the opportunity to tour the facility. Wednesday, May 15th from 8:00AM - 4:00PM. The event is free but registration is required.

Virginia Women Veterans Summit

The Virginia Department of Veterans Services in partnership with statewide partners and Cox Communications will host the 2019 Virginia Women Veterans Summit to be held Thursday, May 16th and Friday, May 17th, 2019 in Hampton, VA. Registration is open.

Career Transition Education thru VEI Vetworking

Launched in 2013, the NVTC Veterans Employment Initiative (VEI) connects Veterans and military spouses to employment opportunities and provides support to member companies in their efforts to recruit, hire, train and retain qualified Veteran and military spouse employees. The next cohort of the VEI Vetworking for Military, Veterans and Spouses will be on May 23 and May 30th. The program is broken down into two sessions of three hours each. Each session runs from 5-8 pm and dinner is provided. There is a maximum of 25 per cohort and once signed up you must commit to attending both sessions. Registration is open now.

Armed Forces Day Open House

Join the Workhouse Military in the Arts Initiative this May on Saturday May 18th for an Armed Forces Day Open house Celebration! May 18th from 12:00 - 3:00 PM. They will have activities for the whole family, regardless of Military affiliation. This is a free event.

ASAP Acting Workshop

Presented by Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP), this workshop is designed for actors and non-actors that are curious about the Meisner Approach. This workshop will take place on Saturday, May 18th, from 1 PM – 4 PM at the Capitol Post (625 N Washington St, Suite 425, Alexandria, VA 22314) and is open to/free for all veterans, service members, military family members, and caregivers. Registration is required.

Warriors to Workforce Hiring Fair

Veterans Only: Join the US Department of Veterans Affairs Acquisition Academy and the DC Mayor's Office of Veteran Affairs for a VETERANS ONLY Hiring Fair on Tuesday, May 7th from 8:30am - 3:00pm. This job fair is for military veterans who have not obtained a college degree and are interested in beginning a new career as a Contract Specialist.

Arts4Vets Festival – May 17

Are you an artist, emerging artist or an art enthusiast?  You will find something to love at the 1st ever Team RWB Arts4Vets Fest. They're currently accepting Veteran submissions in all types of art forms for exhibit and sale. They are accepting anything from Spoken Word, Culinary Art, New Media, Mixed Media, Paintings, Photos, Sculptures, Performing Arts, and more.   

Working with Military Families Impacted by Family Violence & Sexual Assault – May 16

The Fairfax County Domestic Violence Network invites you to join presenters from the Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall’s Family Advocacy Program to learn about Military Life, unique challenges faced by Service Members and their families, and the programs and services offered by the Military to address Family Violence and Sexual Assault.  Thursday, May 16 from 1:30 - 3:30 pm at the Fairfax County Government Center.
