Participants Needed for Non-Drug Clinical Trial for Depression

The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center is seeking participants for a new non-drug clinical trial for depression associated with concussive Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). The purpose of the clinical trial is to investigate the efficacy and tolerability of rTMS to improve depressive symptoms in service member with a history of concussive TBI.

Operation Tohidu Offering Male MST Retreat

Melwood Veterans Services’ Operation Tohidu is holding a pilot session for male military sexual trauma (MST) survivors September 9 – 13, 2019.  Applications are now being accepted. Mind-Body Skills & Affirmation Stone Workshops

The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Easterseals is offering two wellness workshops for veterans and military families on Saturday, July 27th. Join them at 9:30 am for a Mind-Body Skills Workshop facilitated by the American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces. Stay and take part in the Affirmation Stone Workshop that begins at 10:30am. These events are free and the clinic has plenty of free parking and is metro accessible. Please register to attend.

Welcome Home Benefits Fair

Saturday, July 27th from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm at the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Join a host of government and community partners together as they offer assistance to all veterans and transitioning service members. This is a free event. Registration is recommended.

Melwood Launches abilIT Pilot Program

Melwood, one of the nation’s largest employers of people of differing abilities, is embarking on an innovative new project to provide cybersecurity and wraparound professional development training to injured veterans and people of differing abilities. The “abilIT” pilot program launches early next year in Arlington, VA, and is actively recruiting for its inaugural class. Technology Drive for Veterans

Northern Virginia Technology Council is proud to partner with AbleVets and Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce to collect new and used technology to donate to Tech for Troops (T4T). Ten sites in Northern VA and Washington DC will be accepting donation drop offs now through July 26th (see full post for locations.) All donations are tax deductible. Tech for Troops is a non-profit based in Richmond, VA, whose mission is to bridge the digital divide for Veterans and their families. Donations to T4T are refurbished and provided free of charge to Veterans in need, who also can receive IT training and job opportunities.

VA Women’s Health Transition Training

Tuesday, July 23rd at the VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Montgomery County. Join AMVETS and the VA for a women Veteran-led training covering topics such as Transformed VA Culture, Range of VA Women's Health & Mental Health Services, VA Health Care Eligibility and Enrollment and much more. This training is for active duty service women who plan to transition to civilian, Reserves, National Guard or veteran status in 2019 or 2020. It is also open to any female veteran who has not enrolled in VA medical care. Registration is required.

Free Disabilities Benefits Review for Veterans

The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Easterseals will be hosting a Free Disabilities Benefits Claims Review for Veterans. Wednesday, July 24th from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Meet with a trained nationally accredited claims expert for 45 minutes to learn how to properly file a Fully Developed Claim for disability benefits. Registration Required.

Townhall Meeting Regarding Southeast DC CBOC

All veterans, veteran service organizations and veteran families are invited to participate in a Town Hall Meeting focused on the potential closing of the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Southeast DC. Wednesday, July 17th at 7:00 pm. This meeting will provide insight on potential closing, clinic usage and how the closure will impact veterans who use the CBOC. Registration is requested.
