Veterans Open House Jan 12

Veterans, Military Personnel, Family and Friends are Warmly Invited to an Evening of Food, Fellowship, and Storytelling hosted by The Veterans & Military Ministry of Blessed Sacrament Parish. Sunday, January 12th from 5:00-8:00 PM in Washington DC. The Parish will also be collecting gloves and reading glasses for veterans receiving outpatient services at the VA Hospital in Washington, DC.

National Veterans Creative Arts Festival

Entries are being accepted for the National Veteran Creative Arts Festival now through January 21, 2020. Across the country each year, Veterans enrolled at VA health care facilities compete in a local creative arts competition. Do you have a talent in the area of art, creative writing, dance, drama or music? Find out more about entering this year's competition. (Competition will take place February 11 & 12, 2020.)

Veteran Apprenticeship Opportunities

Are you a veteran interested in apprenticeships? The office of Washington DC Apprenticeship Information and training will host information sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays (beginning 12/2/19) for interested veterans to learn more about apprenticeship opportunities and to sign up. Pre-Apprenticeships will begin in January of 2020 and seats are limited so sign up to attend an information session today. Contact 202-698-5099. 

Feeding the Homeless -RSVP for Food by Dec 13

This is an awesome effort by District 24 to assist any veteran, person or families in need of food and other items this holiday season. In order to receive food interested persons MUST send an accurate count of who will be attending and receiving food to Kathleen Hines by no later than Friday, December 13th. Food pick up with occur at St. Margaret's Catholic Church on Sunday, December 15th from 4:00-7:00 PM. 408 Addison Rd. S, Capitol Heights, MD. 

Volunteers Needed for Sound the Alarm Event Dec 14th

The American Red Cross of the National Capital Region is looking for volunteers to support the Sound the Alarm rally at the Watergate at Landmark Condominiums on Saturday, December 14th from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. Volunteers will visit condominiums to install free smoke alarms, replace batteries in existing alarms and share home fire safety education materials. Please ask your family, friends and colleagues to volunteer and register as this event is open to everyone. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.

Sweats for Vets

Join VFW post 11177 and the Knights of Columbus to provide new sweatsuits as gifts to veterans in the Martinsburg VA Medical Center Hospital.  Please donate new, unwrapped sweat suits (only) to the VFW Post 1177 at their Christmas party on  December 13th at 6PM, or contact Phil Rusciolelli pbrusciolelli@aol.com to arrange for drop off.  The sweat suits will be packaged at the VFW 1177 post from 9am-12noon on December 28th. 

Wounded Warrior Project Program Briefing Dec 19th

Join the Steven A Cohen Military Family Clinic at Easterseal and the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) on Thursday, December 19th from 12:00-1:00 PM to learn more about Wounded Warrior Programs.  WWP connects warriors, their families and caregivers to peers, programs and communities to ensure they have a network of support. Serve Our Willing Warriors Holiday Open House

Join Serve Our Willing Warriors on December 15th from 2:30pm – 4:30pm for their annual Open House and Tree Lighting Ceremony at 5pm! Each year the Serve Our Willing Warriors community gathers around the tree and brings a Christmas spirit into the house for the warriors.  Come out and spread some holiday cheer!!  This is a free event.

Veteran Pop Ups are the first premier event of its kind, showcasing veteran businesses to the community through a pop-up shopping model. Join Veterans Grow Virginia on December 14 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm for the 1st Annual Veteran Business Holiday Pop-Up Shop featuring Veteran and their spouse owned businesses! Mix and mingle, while enjoying a nice cup of “Joe” as you pick up those special holiday gifts!
