DC VA Mental Health Summit – Register Today!

The Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center will hold its Mental Health Summit 2018 on Tuesday, September 18 at 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The summit will be hosted by the DC Mayor's Office of Veteran Affairs and held at the Old Council Chambers (near the Judiciary Square Metro Station), 441 4th Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20001. This year’s theme is “Healing Trauma: A Unified Front”. The summit is being held to bring together key stakeholders, veterans and community partners to enhance access to mental health services as well as address the mental health needs of Veterans and their family members residing in DC, MD and VA. This is a free event. Space is limited and registration is required.

Dog Tag Fellowship Applications Are Open!

Applications for Dog Tag Bakery's Winter 2019 Cohort are now open. This transformative fellowship program allows participants to: dip their toe back into education, earning a Certificate in Business Administration from Georgetown University's School of Continuing Studies; gain first-hand experience working in Dog Tag Bakery, our social enterprise; and explore a wide-variety of civilian career paths. Application deadline is October 1st, 2018.

Building Veterans' 3rd Annual Vet Fest is on September 1st 2018 in Brusnwick MD. Gates open at 11am. Concert and 9/11 Remembrance Ride. Food, entertainment and vendors of all types.

Leggett Seeks Applicants for Commission on Veterans Affairs

Montgomery County, MD Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill six vacancies on the Commission on Veterans Affairs. Applications are being accepted through September 7, 2018. Two vacancies are for members representing the general public, and four vacancies are for veterans who may be members of veterans groups such as the Vietnam Veterans of America, American Veterans (AMVETS), Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Women Veterans of America, American Legion, or Military Order of the Purple Heart. One public member and one veteran member are eligible to apply for reappointment.

Project Homeless Connect September 20th

Project Homeless Connect (PHC) brings together essential services at the area’s largest resource fair to meet the needs of our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness. By eliminating barriers that keep them from breaking free of the cycle of homelessness, they’re winning. United Way NCA brings together local service providers from medical, to housing, to employment and much more – serving nearly 1100 PHC participants to date. 9am-5pm DC Armory 2010 E. Capitol Street, NW Washington, DC 20003. This is a free event and open to the public.

The American Freedom Foundation will host Warriors To The Workforce National Harbor (WTTW) presented in association with Easter Seals Veteran Staffing Network and in conjunction with the Air Force Association's 2018 Air, Space and Cyber Conference on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at the the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, MD in the National Harbor Conference Room #10 from 0900 - 1400. Veterans, military service members and military spouses admission is free.  Registration is required.

Operation Homefront announces their newest housing program to support transitioning veterans and their families. This new initiative is designed to place military families in single family homes for a period of 2-3 years while to prepare them for independent home ownership.
