Walking Together, a Retreat for Warriors & Caregivers

Walking Together, a Retreat for Warriors and Caregivers is open to all veterans, active duty and reserve military, spouses, and caregivers. During the walk participants will reflect on spiritual and personal life journeys. Saturday, March 30 from 9:30am - 2:00pm in Washington DC. This workshop will be led by Susan Mitchell, a member of the Ministry team and a lay chaplain who previously led our veterans' writing workshops on the Lament Psalms during the Spring and Fall of 2018. Registration is required.

PMAD Open Studio – Mar 19

This monthly therapeutic artmaking opportunity for military mothers dealing with postpartum depression and Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) helps to build community and make art for personal healing. No previous art experience is necessary and mothers can come alone or with baby (under age 1).

Veterans, family and friends are invited to the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center Community Partners' Winterfest event on Saturday, March 2nd from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm at the Community Resource & Referral Center in DC.

Capitol Area Food Bank Free Pop Up Grocery for Government Employees

The Capital Area Food Bank is committed to providing food for our neighbors in need, throughout the year and in unexpected moments of economic hardship. In response to the government shutdown, the Capital Area Food Bank is holding free pop-up markets for government employees and contractors affected by the shutdown. This Saturday, January 26th, CAFB will be distributing free produce, groceries and frozen meals outside of the six Giant locations below from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Please bring your federal ID or federal contractor ID. Additionally, Haymarket Food Pantry, a partner of the CAFB, will be distributing groceries and household/hygiene items from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Gainesville United Methodist Church.

Veterans Have the Power to Impact Our Community – Feb 19

Northern Virginia Veterans Association will be holding their annual meeting on Tuesday, February 19 at 6:45 pm at Manassas Regional Airport Terminal. This meetings topic will feature how Veterans have the power to impact our community through local Police and Fire Departments, These meetings are open to the public.

Disaster Preparedness Summit – Jan 28

In conjunction with Sponsoring Partners – Pepco, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Washington D.C., The Marriott Foundation and The Webster Group – the American Red Cross will launch the first annual Disaster Preparedness Summit in Washington, DC on January 28, 2019. Their mission with this event is to address the threats and risks to this community, our region and offer real world ways in which companies and other organizations can assess their readiness and better prepare for the unexpected.

Veterans Storytelling & Comedy Show at The Torpedo Factory

Join the Armed Services Arts Partnership's Storytelling 101 and Comedy Bootcamp alumni at the Torpedo Factory Art Center as veterans, service members, and military family members share stories and jokes about the military, veteran, and human experience. This show will take place on Friday, February 22nd at 7:30 PM at The Torpedo Factory Art Center (105 N Union St, Alexandria, VA 22314). Doors will open at 7 PM.
