Speed Networking Event for Military Spouses

Due to popular demand, join the USO for a fun, fast paced speed networking session for military spouses in the Fort Belvoir Military Community.  On 01/23/20 from 09:30 to 13:30, you'll have the opportunity to learn about the USO, the art of networking, create and practice your elevator pitch and speed network with other military spouses, employers, organizations, and community leaders.  All participants will walk away meeting new friends, contacts, and professionals.  

Quantico National Cemetery Wreath Retirement

Volunteers gathered last December to pay respect and honor the veterans buried at Quantico National Cemetery by placing wreaths. Now that the holidays are over, volunteers are needed to help remove the wreaths so that they may be properly disposed of.

Blue Star Families Adult START Book Program

Are you the kind of person who can't stop talking about the last thing you read? Or, are you the kind of person who can never find time to pick up a book? Whichever type of reader you are, Blue Star Families has a program designed with you in mind. We will be enrolling 15-20 adults in our Neighbor START (Serving, Thriving, And Reading Together) Program launching in many spots across the country. Veterans Book Club

Join the Howard County Library System on the first Sunday of each month beginning on January 5, 2020 from 1:00-3:00 PM for their Veterans Book Club. Held at the Central Branch 10375 Little Patuxent Pkwy, Columbia, MD. Lunch and all reading materials are provided. Participants are encouraged to attend all sessions. This is free and open to veterans only please. Registration is required.

Freer|Sackler Family Day with Hokusai

Blue Star Families invites you to attend a family workshop and tour of the new Hokusai Exhibit at Freer|Sackler! The workshop, The Art of Japanese Fabric Wrapping, will give you the opportunity to make a furoshiki wrapping cloth. Saturday, January 11th from 2:00-4:00 PM in Washington DC. Open to active-duty personnel, Guard, Reserves, veterans, wounded warriors, caregivers, EFMP members, and their families. Space is limited. Registration is required.

Veterans Connect Networking Event Jan 16

AUSA Fairfax Lee Chapter has partnered with Brew Republic of Woodbridge and Veterans Grow Virginia to host Northern Virginia’s premier happy hour event called Veterans Connect. Thursday, January 16th from 5:00-8:00 PM at Brew Republic in Woodbridge, VA. Open to Veterans, Active Duty, Military Spouses, and Civilians.

Mental Fitness Jan 25th

Hosted by Workhouse Military in the Arts Initiative, this workshop introduces veterans and their family members to a variety of yoga and fitness (cardio, strength-training) oriented exercises and movements that help to reduce negative symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress, chronic pain and other mental health concerns experienced by veterans, their family members and caregivers as part of the ongoing challenging aspects of military life. By the end of the workshop, attendees will learn basic fitness strategies (as coping skills) to successfully manage military life stressors, thus improving military family functioning and resiliencies. Saturday, January 25th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Free to Active Duty, Veteran, Retired Veteran, and Family of Military. Registration Required.

Wreaths Across America Cleanup-January 11

Volunteers Needed! Join Wreaths Across America on January 19th from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM to volunteer and help retrieve/remove the 265,000+ wreaths that were placed at Arlington National Cemetery on December 15, 2019. Thousands of volunteers are needed and you are welcome to be part of our Washington, DC History & Culture team or help out on your own. This event is open to the public and all are welcome including children, families and groups. Registration is requested.

Feeding the Homeless -RSVP for Food by Dec 13

This is an awesome effort by District 24 to assist any veteran, person or families in need of food and other items this holiday season. In order to receive food interested persons MUST send an accurate count of who will be attending and receiving food to Kathleen Hines by no later than Friday, December 13th. Food pick up with occur at St. Margaret's Catholic Church on Sunday, December 15th from 4:00-7:00 PM. 408 Addison Rd. S, Capitol Heights, MD. 

Volunteers Needed for Sound the Alarm Event Dec 14th

The American Red Cross of the National Capital Region is looking for volunteers to support the Sound the Alarm rally at the Watergate at Landmark Condominiums on Saturday, December 14th from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. Volunteers will visit condominiums to install free smoke alarms, replace batteries in existing alarms and share home fire safety education materials. Please ask your family, friends and colleagues to volunteer and register as this event is open to everyone. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.
