Commonwealth’s Memorial Day Ceremony

The 2020 Commonwealth’s Memorial Day Ceremony will be presented as a “virtual” event. The half-hour ceremony will be live-streamed from the Memorial’s Shrine of Memory beginning at 10 a.m. E.D.T. on Monday, May 25. The public is invited to view this tribute to Virginia’s fallen heroes on social media and select broadcast television stations.

Virtual Ukulele Workshops

Have you always wanted to try the ukulele? Back by popular demand, the Veterans and the Arts Initiative is offering the Veteran community the opportunity to participate in a four-week, online series. Musicians of all skill levels are encouraged to participate in these virtual workshops. Participants must provide their own instruments. Sessions are FREE and open to Veterans, Servicemembers, their families, and military caregivers -- as well as current healthcare workers.

Chesapeake Shakespeare Company (CSC) is offering a FREE program of creative workshops for veterans; active-duty, Guard, and Reserve service members; and their families and caregivers. This program is part of Creative Forces®: NEA Military Healing Arts Network, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the U.S. Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs and the state and local arts agencies with support provided by Americans for the Arts.

Freer|Sackler Family Day with Hokusai

Blue Star Families invites you to attend a family workshop and tour of the new Hokusai Exhibit at Freer|Sackler! The workshop, The Art of Japanese Fabric Wrapping, will give you the opportunity to make a furoshiki wrapping cloth. Saturday, January 11th from 2:00-4:00 PM in Washington DC. Open to active-duty personnel, Guard, Reserves, veterans, wounded warriors, caregivers, EFMP members, and their families. Space is limited. Registration is required.

National Veterans Creative Arts Festival

Entries are being accepted for the National Veteran Creative Arts Festival now through January 21, 2020. Across the country each year, Veterans enrolled at VA health care facilities compete in a local creative arts competition. Do you have a talent in the area of art, creative writing, dance, drama or music? Find out more about entering this year's competition. (Competition will take place February 11 & 12, 2020.)

ASAP Open Mic at DogTag Dec 12th

The Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP) will be hosting an Open Mic in partnership with Dog Tag Bakery on Thursday, December 12th at 7:00pm. Join them to hear and support the artistic talents of veteran storytellers, comics, writers, and musicians. Tickets can be reserved in advance or purchased at the door.
