Workhouse Military in the Arts Initiative

WMAI provides free, weekly therapeutic and/or fine arts Open Studio opportunities that are exclusive to the military community for veterans to explore their creativity through structured and open-ended art experiences such as painting, sculpture and drawing. Open Studio sessions are intended to foster creativity and encourage experimentation in a safe, communal atmosphere of cultural exchange, conversation, and freedom of expression. 

Preventing Suicide Among Military and Veterans

2020 6th Annual HUDVAG Turkey & ‘Fix-ins’ Giveaway

The past few months have been particularly devastating for veterans transitioning from homelessness as several of our veterans, and their family members, are now unemployed as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Access Housing, Inc.(Southeast Veterans Service Center), HUD Veterans Affinity Group (VAG), and our community partners will be collecting Turkeys & ‘Fix-Ins’, in support of the 6th Annual Turkey & ‘Fix-Ins’ Giveaway for our formerly homeless veterans, and their families, who are transitioning from homelessness to stable housing beginning Monday, November 9, 2020, through Friday, November 20, 2020

Native American Heritage Month: Celebration of All Veterans

Join an amazing panel of speakers to discover the customs and ways in which our country's indigenous people celebrate military veterans. Commemorate Native American Heritage Month by learning how veterans are celebrated at pow wows through the United States, the first-ever pow wow in Iraq, and other ceremonial customs.

Welcome to the newsletter of Serving Together for the celebration of Veteran’s Day! Serving Together is a private, non-profit organization serving veterans, service members, and their families in the Washington DC area and uses technology and its partner network to guide veterans and their families to the most appropriate services and resources available. Beyond what we do, we wanted to focus today on delivering information to everyone about specific events related to Veteran’s Day happening in the DMV area. However, due to COVID, many events will have a different approach to how they will proceed. Thank you for letting us serve you!

WMAI provides free, weekly Open Studio opportunities that are exclusive to the military community for veterans to explore their creativity through structured and open-ended art experiences such as painting, sculpture, and drawing. Open Studio occurs every Saturday from 12-3 PM in Warrior Way Art Studio in Building W-16.

Women Veterans: Building Community (Virtual Meet and Greet)

Join a virtual meet and greet on November 5 to connect with other veteran leaders and grow community.

2020 Senior Veterans Grab and Go Celebration

M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County is honoring our Prince George’s County senior veterans (ages 60 & better) in a special, social-distanced Grab and Go meal celebration. Senior veterans are welcome to drive through and receive a hot catered meal for two and a small gift of appreciation. Veterans will be greeted by cheering staff, event sponsors, the Maryland Army National Guard, and patriotic music! Please note: This event is only for veterans (ages 60 & older) who reside in Prince George’s County.

USO Holiday Programs

USO Holiday Programs registration is now open for 2020! Military families can enter lotteries for Turkeys for Our Troops, Trees for Our Heroes, and Project USO Elf. Registration opens October 21, 2020, deadline to register is November 1, 2020. Good luck!

Year of the Woman: DC Women Veteran Virtual Roundtable

This virtual event, happening October 29 at 12 PM, will highlight DC Women Veterans: Year of the Woman, in cooperation with Mayor's Office on Women Policy and Initiatives (MOWPI), and the Service Women Action Network.
