Mental Health First Aid: Military and Veterans – May 1

Serving Together, a program of EveryMind will be hosting an 8 hour Adult Mental Health First Aid training program with a focus on assisting military service members, veterans and their families on Monday, May 1, 2017 from 8:30 am - 5:30 pm at American Red Cross Regional Headquarters (8550 Arlington Blvd. Fairfax, VA 22031). The workshop is FREE for military, veterans, their families and those who work or support them. Lunch and refreshments will be provided for attendees. New Property Tax Credit for Some Montgomery County Residents

The new property tax credit provides a tax credit to people over 65 years of age who have lived and owned a dwelling for at least 40 consecutive years, or are retired from one of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Military Service: A Woman’s Perspective – April 5th

This course will present first-hand information on the experiences of women who have served in the military from the Vietnam Era to the Global War on Terror. Registration is required.

VEI VETWORKING Program – March 29 & April 5

The Northern Virginia Technology Council’s Veteran Employment Initiative offers a VETWORKING program which provides Veteran and military spouse jobseekers with career transition education and personal growth experiences to succeed in seeking civilian employment. The next session will be held on March 29 & April 5 2017 from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm for each session at The MITRE Corporation at 1550 Westbranch Dr. McLean, VA.

Veterans and Spouses receive priority for Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)

Eligible veterans and their spouses will receive priority for Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Services, provided through the SkillSource Group, Inc. and its multiple partners. Local veterans can receive individualized career counseling, including training, job search assistance and small business development. Services are designed to help build the skills employers are looking for.

Hero Dogs currently has facility dogs for placement to a qualified clinician or staff member in a residential or health care setting. Facility dogs “work” full-time at the facility under the care and supervision of a staff member to achieve specific treatment or program goals through animal-assisted therapy.
