SMVF Opioid Addiction: Increasing Access to Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery

Service members and Veterans are often treated with prescription opioid medication for pain relief from their service-related injuries. Recognizing that there is an increased risk for abuse and addiction, implementing evidence-based prevention, treatment, and recovery strategies are critical. This webinar will address best practice methods of preventing opioid abuse, treating those experiencing addiction, and supporting service members and Veterans in recovery. Free Legal Assistance – Military Discharge Upgrades

The Veterans Consortium offers free legal assistance through their Military Discharge Upgrade Clinics. Free representation for veterans with Other Than Honorable discharges related to PTSD, TBI or similar mental health conditions.

Silver Spring VET Center Open House

Veterans, active duty & military families, please join the Silver Spring VET Center as they celebrate their 40th Anniversary with an Open House on June 20th from 10:00am-3:00pm. Vet Centers are community-based counseling centers that provide a wide range of social and psychological services, including professional readjustment counseling to eligible Veterans, active duty service members, including National Guard and Reserve components, and their families.

Maryland’s Commitment To Veterans Southern MD Conference

Join Maryland's Commitment to Veterans (MCV) and the team from Melwood Veteran Services' Operation Tohidu for this year's MCV Southern Maryland Conference. This year’s Conference will cover several topics concerning veteran behavioral health from various perspectives. Lunch will be provided, and an additional 5.75 Continuing Education Units will be available to all attendees who indicate this on the eventbrite registration. This event is being held at the Operation Tohidu Retreat grounds. Participants will have the opportunity to tour the facility. Wednesday, May 15th from 8:00AM - 4:00PM. Survivors of Suicide Attempt Support Group

June 9th through August 4th at EveryMind in Rockville, MD. This 8 week closed group will be co-facilitated by two leaders trained in the Didi Hirsch support group model. Mental Health First Aid: Military/Veterans

ServingTogether, a program of EveryMind, will be offering two Mental Health First Aid: Military and Veteran Module 8-hour courses in May!  We're partnering with the Prince George's County Government and Frederick Community College to provide these workshop FREE of charge to individuals or organizations working with or supporting the military and veteran community.
